Panthers @ Leafs - Feb. 17th, 7:30pm - SNO, Fan 590

Maybe, but he's gonna be moving for a 6th or a 7th at best I'd imagine. It's possible a team picks him up as much to be insurance in the event a top 6 C gets hurt in the playoffs as much as to be a regular roster player.

That's probably true, but, at the same time, he's still likely to get that regardless of which line the Leafs play him on. Teams looking at Jokinen are teams looking for cheap depth down the middle, and they'll be trading for him most on reputation more than anything else. Playing him on the top line isn't going to have a significant impact on his value, while, on the flip side, moving Bozak off of it may serve as further evidence to how he'd struggle without Kessel and/or JvR, which would negatively impact his value - and that's the trade the team needs to be more concerned about.

Busta, are you Mirtle?

James Mirtle @mirtle
Some fans calling for Leafs to "showcase" Jokinen on a top line, but it's really more important they get value for Bozak.

Sure, which is why it's important to keep this in perspective. It's very important that the other guys in the dressing room don't get too discouraged right now(Why not, a tanking advocate might ask and who was unfamiliar with what players demanding trades does to their value). If the upside of promoting a guy who's new to the team, doesn't want to be there and hasn't performed well all year to the first line is a 6th or 7th round pick, it's just not worth the risk.

No, but it was that Mirtle tweet that set a light off for me there, for sure.

I wouldn't at all be surprised to see the team pull out a few wins with this roster.

They're, arguably, not that much worse. Defensively they're about the same IMO. Granberg is about equal to Franson and Jokinene is better than Santorelli.

They're worse offensively but if the first line has a night they can hang with most teams (the recent low SH % notwithstanding) as long as the defence holds up.

Hope some more moves are made to make the roster worse.

If they're smart they'll give him 1st line minutes and #1 pp time at centre.

He goes on a run and he's tradable (not for much mind you but better than nothing), he sucks and the tank is preserved (with an added amount of hilarity).

I really don't think other GM's are that stupid.

Just ours apparently.

David Clarkson

Cap Hit: $5.25 million.
2014-15: $4.75 million.
2015-16: $5.5 million.
2016-17: $7 million.
2017-18: $7 million.
2018-19: $4.75 million.
2019-20: $3.25 million.
2020-21: UFA

(sorry, easy joke to make)

Of course they will. You really think they're going to go 0-25 to finish the season?

Well, the record for longest losing streak is 17 games by the 74-75 Capitals, that would really be a feather in the cap of this team to top that mark.

This is what worries me. A 'one for all/all for one' outlook, with a 'nothing to lose' attitude. A 'last farewell' effort of sorts, from guys like Kessel and Bozak, Etc. Such a 'turn of events' could certainly propel this team on a mini win streak. One that takes us well 'out of the running' of a decent shot at winning that draft lottery. That's a lot of cliches. We don't need anything that could potentially 'light a fire' under this teams collective asses. Ok. I'm done.  ???

A lot of things can change before March 2, a team heading for the Playoffs have injuries to two to their Centres, Ollie starts off with the Leafs like a Finn with his tailfin on fire and scores/assists a bunch. All of a sudden Ollie and his flying waffle could look mighty attractive. Hold the Maple Surple.

Oli will want to show the playoff teams that he is indeed a valuable asset that wasn't used properly.  He'll set the Leafs on fire just enough so there's no hope for a good draft pick, but not enough for Nonis to get anything for him in a trade.

Hey, pal, you're going to have to knock it off with the brutal negative commentary.

Cheer up, it's just hockey.

I'm not even sure how its possible.

A player playing well enough to make crappy team win games, but not well enough that another team would want him.

How much impact could he have on the team's fortune's if he's apparently going to be traded within six games?
