Game Notes
FLA
-Sergei Bobrovsky (9-5-1, 3.18 GAA, .885 Sv%) will likely start for the Panthers
-The defending Cup champions got off to a terrific start to the season going 11-3-1 in their first 15 games. They've since gone just 1-6-0 though, including a current 4-game losing streak where they've been outscored 20-9
TOR
-Anthony Stolarz (7-3-2, 2.18 GAA, .927 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
-All eyes will be on the status of Auston Matthews on Wednesday. He skated on a line with Nylander and Holmberg on Tuesday but his and Berube's comments afterward made it seem like he could still need a little more time before getting back into a game. A corresponding roster move would be required to remove Matthews from the IR
-This game of course makes the first time that former Panthers Stolarz, OEL, and Lorentz will return to Florida after winning the Stanley Cup in June

Bring on the Champs.

Florida plays the top "playoff-style" hockey in the NHL, and they are battling Leafs for first in the Atlantic. Reports say Maurice was cursing more than usual at practice to get his team ready for tonight.

Notwithstanding that the Leafs have significant injuries, tonight is going to give us a measure of what Berube's team is about. And three former Panthers on the Leafs, its gonna be a battle!

I'm friggen pumped!!!

I'm glad they aren't rushing Matthews back. Obviously we have no idea what his injury actually is but 1-2 practices back after missing almost a month seems like an unnecessary thing. Especially against a team that is liable to take some liberties with him.

Sounds like Alex is getting a chance on PP1 with Minten going down to PP2.

But doesn't it sound like nothing changed for Matthews? I believe the dialogue about his ailment is that it's neither better nor worse so why not play?

He hadn't skated much before this week, so it's about him getting up to speed, back in sync, etc. He may be healthy, but he also may not quite be in game shape.

To me in his interview, I got the impression he didn’t feel like he was in game shape yet. Also, it feels inevitable that his first game back is probably going to be a disaster of a game because of the shuffling and likely looking for him again, so why make the panthers that first game.

Roster decisions coming. Steeves is up on emergency recall. That probably ends Saturday if no more forwards get hurt tonight or at practice.
If Knies returns with Matthews, a second roster decision has to get made.
Grebs and Steeves will be the first 2 gone. Minten will get the longest look.

Grebs will figure it out pretty quickly in the AHL, Needs some more seasoning and skating help. He is going to be very good for us.

Agreed Minten will get the longest look. We need a center..... maybe even two.

I think Grebenkin already has some pro seasoning with 2+ years in KHL, which is the second most competitive pro hockey league. So I think he should be able to crack a regular roster spot.... maybe play on a line with Lorentz. Bash Brothers 2025!

SN needs to replace Craig Simpson with Jim Ralph. Or literally any other living person.
