Game Notes

PIT
?Murray (15-7-1, 2.96 GAA, .910 Sv%) will likely start for the Penguins
?The Pens played in Ottawa on Friday night beating the sens 5-3
?The newly acquired Pens, Bjugstad and McCann, arrived to the rink in Ottawa just 13 minutes prior to puck drop and were both on the bench at the start of the game. They will presumably have more time than that to make it to Toronto
?One player who wasn't on the Pens bench Friday was Evgeni Malkin, and he will also miss the game against the Leafs

TOR
?Sparks (6-3-1, 2.91 GAA, .907 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?The Leafs will look to shake off some rust as they participate in their first game since returning from their bye week

Injuries

?Evgeni Malkin - Lower Body - Day to day
?Zach Aston-Reese - Upper Body - Injured Reserve
?Justin Schultz - Leg - Questionable Saturday
Code:

?Tyler Ennis - Ankle - Injured Reserve

Rather have seen Andersen tonight but that's Babcock. Just don't understand his thought process on the back to backs. Doesn't give any thought as to who and where you're playing just start Andersen in the first game. Guys clueless. Anyway hoping for a better effort than the game last night.

It?s almost like he knew the team would be rusty last night, and having their better goalie in would give them a better chance to win. It?s also like he knows the team tends to play much better when they play good teams, so he?s less worried about having to rely on his goaltender tonight.

Agreed. And I'd feel confident saying that if he hadn't started Andersen last night, we wouldn't have gotten a point out of the game.

I think all this babcock bashing is utter nonsense. You can debate the finer points of strategy, but at the end of the day, your best players have to display the talent to take over games, which hasn't been the case for a bit of an extended stretch of late.

Would be real surprised if the leafs win this one.  With sparks going and the 2 month slump this one could get out of hand.

I am depressed after last night?s horrific snoozer. How does this ?fire power? produce so little? The PP was beyond dreadful. Totally confused.

I think back to beginning of season and Ferraro predicting the team could average well over 4 goals per game. ?Slumps? generally don?t last this long.

You have the perfect handle, sounds like Ice9 but is not that. Part of real life is looking at things positively, I have been watching the Leafs and remember since the early 60's, I have seen the Ballard Dustbowl days. Lived through decades of bad hockey and bad teams.
We have a sensational lineup that is about to break out. Maybe not today or tomorrow but they will. The sky doesn't fall with a small sample of games, gotta have some faith Baby. 8)

Games will never start on time.  If you?re gonna do a ceremony why not just start it earlier?

Thing is though, people have been saying for 5 weeks that the leafs about to break out.  And my question is, what if they don?t?  If they continue to play this way they will certainly miss the playoffs.

Of course I want them to win.  But not one thing in the past month provides  any optimistic outlook.  And I put it on coaches more than anything.    Same breakout.  Same useless PP.  I want it to change.  But it doesn?t seem like anything new is being tried.

My opinion means sh*t but Babcock is still coaching in the early 2000?s. As far as the goaltending why wouldn?t you look at who and where you?re playing before you make the call on who starts.

The way the Leafs played last night Howard could have been on the bench and we still would have lost. All I?m saying it shouldn?t be automatic on who gets the start but again what do I know.

Better pace this start.

I like using this stretch of the season to develop a couple
Of different looks in the lineup.
