You know what's not fair? Phil Kessel's shot.

On top of all that in the article, he apparently switches sticks 5-10 times a game, each with different configurations (blade lie, kick points, flex, etc.), so even if a goalie gets squared to Phil, he has no idea when or where the release will be. His scoring posture is also usually counter to what his stick is doing, and Phil still knows exactly where the puck will go.

11. The Athletic?s Josh Yohe had an interesting story from Matt Murray about Phil Kessel. Murray said Kessel uses several different sticks per game, featuring different stiffness and specifications. I had a chance to ask Kessel about it when they practised in Toronto. He says what he adjusts is the height of the stick; he?s finicky about how long or short it is and can feel the slightest difference in his ability to control the puck.

It was a fascinating conversation, very similar to stories about Ichiro Suzuki and his bats. How many sticks do you use during the season? ?Maybe 200,? he answered. Word is that, while in Toronto, Kessel went through 240 in one season and only Dion Phaneuf was anywhere close. Listening to players talk about their craft or their tools is really something.

This is very important information.

It's nice to hear from the more talented but second best looking Kessel on that front.

Also Phil Kessel since leaving Toronto:  76G 129A 205P  on top of his 18G 27A 45P in the playoffs

I know it would have changed how we drafted but imagine Phil playing with Matthews or Nylander

I DECLARE THIS THE QUINTESSENTIAL ARTICLE ON PHIL KESSEL

Fun stat posted by HNIC on their social media channels today:

Phil Kessel played in the most games in the 2010s decade; 787. He didn?t miss a single game.

(He also had the second most shots in the decade quite a long way behind Ovechkin)

Kessel gets the advantage of NHL schedulers.  Yandle also didn't miss a single game, and even had an 84 game season the year he was traded.  But, had less games scheduled after Jan 1st in 09-10 and before Jan 1st in 19-20 so he only ended up at 785.

Marleau had 782 and had he not missed the first 4 games of this season without a contract would be right there.  Add his 99 playoff games and he leads in total games though (without missing one)
