Phil Kessel

Trying to confirm, but think I saw a stat early this morning fly by on twitter that between 2007 and now he is behind only Crosby for the most goals scored per games played.

Just at a glance it's not true. Ovechkin's GPG over that stretch is .643 and Kessel's is .399.

Again the goal scoring percentage points to an enjoyment of playing towards Canadian teams.

Well, the thing to keep in mind is that over that stretch, most of the Canadian teams haven't been particularly good.

Yeah I was lacking coffee when I read it.  He's 12th overall in goals scored in the timeframe and 10th in goals per games played.

Because Phil Kessel hates Canada.

Speaking of which.... I read the other day (and was slightly shocked by it) that the all-time goal per game leader is Mike Bossy. Man'o'man... what a career but imagine what it would have been if it wasn't cut short?

He would have been nothing less than consistent and productive.
Only because of his back problems, otherwise, Bossy, often
referred to as the NHL's purist scorer, would still have had quite a
career ahead of him.

Besides, he happens to be my favourite NHLer of all time.  A four-time Stanley Cup winner!!!  The New York Islanders, the '80s dynasty!!  :D :)

The NHL's purist scorer? Okay, sure... I'm down.

His goals were purer than all other goals, arriving gently in the net on a cloud of marshmallow fluff and angel wings.

This stands in stark contrast to Phil Esposito, whose goals were angrily excreted into the back of the net by a diseased Moose.

I do think however, that being the all time GPG leader among a collection of incredible names is quite the accomplishment.... and it's not like he was a flash in the pan either. It is truly a shame about his back.

Although not sticking around into the decline phase of his career is probably the reason he's got that GPG record.

Sure.. But add another 150 goals which I think is more than fair (could be closer to 200) and he's right up there with Howe for 2nd all time behind Gretz.

You never know, he might have had Mike Gartner like consistency.

Probably. But factor in the era's conditions and I'd still probably lean towards Hull as the #3 goal scorer of all time.

I loved Mike Bossy, I actually credit him with inspiring me to follow hockey as much as I do. I watch all 4 of their championships in the early 80's, though I was young, I was pretty hooked after that. He was a magnificent player and was exciting to watch, one of my all time favorite players.

To each their own... I'd probably go with Bossy in his prime over anyone named "Hull" in theirs but again, its just personal choice.

The Isles were "the team" when I started watching hockey too... Actually, I hated them because they were sort of the Darth Vader's of hockey to Edmonton's Luke Skywalkers. I know... it sounds dumb.

Well, personal choice/Bossy's best season being Hull's 4th best season.

Hey, it's a fair argument to go with Hull if you want. - It doesn't do much to change my opinion though.
