Possible Lupul suspension

Removing the fact that he is one of my favorite Leafs and just watching the play as a neutral observer I would hope that it gets 1 game as it is the dangerous style of hits that the league needs to remove.  The puck carrier was vulnerable and unsuspecting to boot.

Let Lupul play against Boston though.  :)

If you're the puck carrier, you should always be aware that a hit could be coming.

I agree, the game happens so fast that the puck carrier has to share at least a little of the blame. I'm kind of undecided about whether it was a blind side or not, as Hedman totally looks the other way. But as "Nazie" says, he was the initial pressure, then Lupul came into Hedman right behind him and I'm not sure if Hedman saw Lupul at all.

Either way, Lupul is not a dirty player, so I am not thinking in the least that this had any intent, so I'll be surprised if he gets two, but I'm expecting a warning or fine, 1 game tops.

I hear ya.  That is one of the things that frustrates me regarding 'hitting from behind as well'.  For most players it is a strategy either to shield the puck or to keep from getting hit.  Players put themselves in vulnerable situations rather than guarding themselves.

My son is a VERY clean hockey player and got thrown out of a game because the opposing player turned at the very last moment and Caleb couldn't stop.

A phone hearing right?

Here's a good video Shanahan put out going through the process of determining a suspension: http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=204867

Certainly adding a couple guys like Lupul and Gardiner and removing a couple guys like McLaren and Holzer makes this team a whole lot better in the long run.  This is arguably the best group we have had post lockout.  When you factor in the addition of JVR and Kadri the Beast. Then you replace Schenn with Fraser which is a wash or even an upgrade sadly enough at least the way Schenn was playing, this team is worlds above last years edition.  There really is no reason we shouldn't be a playoff team.

Thanks for the link!

Since that clip specifically mentions that prior history and degree of injury caused have no bearing on whether or not a suspension is handed down (they only go towards determining length of suspension), this is starting to feel more like a 1-game to me, rather than just a fine.  Hmm.

One game maximum, in my opinion. Though after watching the replay a few times, I really think he was aiming for the shoulder and slipped in front of him.

Does the fact that he received a 2-minute minor on the ice influence the supplemental discipline at all?  i.e the refs on the ice saw it and viewed it only severe enough to give him a minor, instead of 5-and-a-game...

Possibly, though it's possible that getting 5 and a game would have helped his cause more - Shanny could have seen that as being punishment enough for the hit.

and we're getting close to game time.  This bodes...well?

I would have expected a video by now if he was going to be suspended... but I still wouldn't be surprised if he was suspended.
