Hard to judge on small sample size. There are times when Andersen looks terrible for games on end and then he turns it around and is unbeatable for weeks. It's weird for goalies. Sparks had times last year where he was unbelievable on the Marlies, you don't want to give up on that just cause of a mediocre preseasonL K said:Sparks is making it hard to support waiving McBackup with his preseasons numbers.
He needs to be outstanding to give McBackup the heave ho. Don't see it happening. A good AHL goalie doesn't always make a good NHLer. McBackup=proven. Sparks=??? Don't count on Sparks getting picked up like it's a done deal. Key thing to remember is the waiver pickup team must keep him with the big club and if they try to put him through waivers, the Leafs have first chance.L K said:Sparks is making it hard to support waiving McBackup with his preseasons numbers.

I dunno. I get the idea that Sparks is 10 years younger and maybe could play more than McBackup but man at what point do you say McBackup is playing better in the NHL in the here and now? I know he's 35 and might fall apart quickly, but he's shown no signs of slowing down since the Leafs got him. I've wanted to believe in Sparks with his amazing AHL run but show me something with the big club buddyHobbes said:Zee said:He's playing the long game. He's battling back a bit with a handful of pretty respectable saves. All things considered, I'd rather keep him if there's a reasonable chance of his deficiencies being coachable.
