You know what I think they should do with the PP?

Unless Matthews was on the shift that drew the penalty, just roll him out. He?s good with Marner. He?s good with Nylander. Pretty much just make him the #1 staple rather than static units. Marner-Kadri-Tavares-Rielly or Gardiner is already proven to be effective without the left flank.
I like it. Everyone's worried about all 3 centers being out there on the PP and the 4th line going out after but I think they could throw Marleau out there with 2 other winger like Brown and Hyman to avoid mismatches after the PP.

If you?ve heard the Full 60 podcast with Darryl Belfry, you?ll have heard the Leafs? skills consultant/technician gushing about how Matthews changed his shot prior to coming to the NHL and has done so again this offseason in pursuit of more goals in more scenarios.

This isn?t the toe drag wrister we?re accustomed to.

Matthews? main reason for his scoring prowess is his ability to shoot at an elite release speed and accuracy without setting a shooting stance. He fires this one off one touch without even changing his stride on reception. This allows for more accuracy and deception than a one timer: he could hold it, he could sling a changeup, he could change the angle situationally, all without even showing he?s ready to shoot. Here he elected to keep the puck outside to keep it away from the hapless defender and go around the regrouping Price (Royal Road pass).

Marnerology.  Nylander is adept too.

All I can say is I'm glad it's preseason. Seems only Marner and Freddie came to play.

I think the sad thing about the D situation is that everyone pretty much considered it addition by subtraction with Polak leaving, but I don't see any internal option improving upon him based on what I've watched so far. Yeah, I said it.

Well, I think Dubas & Co. have been doing a bit of whistling past the graveyard with the D.  For sure, keeping Polak was not going to be the answer, but I think they are hoping this O92 fellow would sort of upgrade that.

And preseason or not, after watching Leivo's half baked backcheck and then lazy penalty with 5 seconds left, I'd have him on waivers before the end of the game. That was just pathetic.

Leafs have been sloppy as hell but 2 PP and 2 SH goals, if we could only get going 5 on 5
