Maybe save some for real games

Brilliant feed against the grain from Pacioretty

Robertson with another gem. Great backcheck that leads to a goal.
Welcome to the team, no doubt about it...Top 6 please and thanks.

It?s going to be Pacioretty-Tavares-Robertson as a middle-6 line. Minimal 4th line minutes as we roll a top 9 most of the game.

Turns out Berube?s system works for Robertson quite well.

Larkin?s concussions must?ve jarred something loose

Well, pencil in Robertson wherever you like, but he's made the team for sure...so now what?
LTIR or trade if they want to sign Lorentz and Patches.

Something like this. I think Jarnkrok needs to go and I'd have no issue with Holmberg being our 4C. He's had a good camp.

I tyhink it would be a mistake to trade Jarnkrok.  They are trending towards LA Kinginess in terms of team ID and speed.  I am not a K?mpfhater but I'd trade him before Jarnkrok.

And I think Liljegren is gone.

I?d move on from Domi and Reaves instead of Kampf and Jarnkrok personally, but swagger trumps quiet scut work, I guess!

Robertson's scoring has lifted him enough to force his way onto the team (or else sweeten his trade value) but it's that defensive clip that will keep him there, if he can do it consistently.

We've seen players beat up in the preseason only to flame our before but this is intriguing.
All he did last season was score at a better rate then everyone not named Matthews at 5v5 per/60 mins. The kid can shoot the puck and his D game has really improved over last season. Makes 850K, absolutely no brainer.

It is, I'm just saying pre-season play is not necessarily indicative of in season play. I don't think that's controversial.

I'm with you Bender. Seen it too many times.

Having said that:
He's not a big guy. He's had some tough injuries.
On RW, he's probably always going to be behind Marner & Nylander.
On the left side, Bertuzzi, Knies & McMann outplayed him last year.
So he stood up for himself this summer asking for a trade because he looked blocked by others ahead of him.
He relents and signs a 1 yr deal.
He comes into camp and is currently leading the league with 5 preseason goals and playing some credible, improved defense doing so.
I haven't seen that very often.
He deserves some real credit.

I doubt it is sustainable. But what else could the guy do to earn a spot on the roster while on the outside looking in? He probably earned it as much as anyone on the team. Good for him and the Leafs.

I agree. Kampf and Jarnkrok aren't very flashy, but you don't want a team of all flash.

But you need scoring, something Jarnkrok doesn't do in the playoffs. Domi brings a hell of a lot more then him overall.

I think we have to measure on the aggregate; I kind of think Robertson and Domi bring similar things to the table: speedy left shot that puts up offense in curated minutes. Domi has centring capabilities, but Domi defensively sewers any line that he plays on (unless it's with Matthews, but that dials his usage towards sheltered). Robertson is trending towards being more defensive neutral with runway to develop. And there is a whack of cap gap there.

To me, Robertson (0.875), Jarnkrok (2.1), Kampf (2.4) ~5.4M is more valuable to the team overall (for all the variety of situations) than Robertson (0.875), Domi (3.75), Reaves (1.35) is = ~6M, with nearly 600k more space to boot.

I know there is no way they're dropping the pseudo-hometown nepo-boy that signed here in UFA July, so it's a moot point.

It?s encouraging, but, yeah, typically, preseason performance is ultimately meaningless. Level of competition is lower, player usage and ice time are very different than regular season, intensity from vets is lower, etc. Hopefully, he can ride the confidence wave some into the season. He?ll have to if he wants a full-time spot in the lineup.
