Ozhiganov went glass and out on one play I recall last night, shades of Roman Polak.

Similar to a dump-in a the blue line, glass and out is sometimes the right play, i.e. when it is the only viable play that doesn't result in immediate continued possession by the offense. Gardiner should maybe use it a bit more. It's a big problem if it's the only play the defense knows how to make to get out of the zone when their partner is unavailable (Polak, Hainsey).

Yeah I was just being funny.  Can't draw any conclusions from one preseason game, want to see how Oz handles all situations before I determine whether he can move the puck better than Polak. Let's hope he's an upgrade.

I think that we can all agree that one pre season game, played at a non-standard venue, is not in any way an accurate way to measure ability. We saw some good glimpses of Oz and I thought Cracknell and Clark were strong, but let's see what the candidates do on an NHL rink.

91 is the upside down of 16

I will pay for a Maple Leafs themed T-shirt where somebody exploits that with a Yin Yang symbol.  I mean, literally, side-by-side, the middle part of 1691 generally makes the Yin Yang symbol.

I'll take 10% of royalties if one of you develops and markets this shirt.

Something like this?

I don't have time now to get the colors right.

Very impressed with Borgman who seems serious at landing a spot with the big club.  Looks good on the rush, sports a good point shot, not afraid to use the body.  So far, so good.

Tavares & Marner surely didn't miss a beat.  These guys could have had skates strapped on all summer long for all we know. (only joking).
Tavares + Marner = m-a-g-i-c
They complement each other on that ice admirably.

McElhinney & Sparks dressed to impress.  McBackup is the experienced, calm, and collected one.
Sparks is the confident, advantageous one and by that his sheer size and span across his net forced the hand of his opponents that resulted in botched chances.
Take your pick, whom do you prefer?

Leivo.  Of all the Leafs, he had the most SOG (5) plus some chances to convert which he didn't.  He needs to find that net but can generally skate and go with the flow.
The Leivo-Kadri-Brown generated chances in the offensive zone as well as time but little in the way of anything short of spectacular.

Olzighanov came across as a Polak with a brain.
Dermott played okay, at times not okay.

Not too happy that the Leafs D continues with sloppy play (hey, it's only a pre-season game).

Glad the Leafs won and happy that Johnny T is a Leaf!!!

I thought Borgman was very good last night, looked like he belongs.
Loved your comment on Oz, very true, looked pretty good actually.
Tavares say no more!
Leivo does belong and will not blow up cartoon balloons.
Sparks looked good, not that McBackup didn't
Oh, who is this guy Clark, have never heard his name or mentioned and he played like a beast, he wants to become a be-longer.

Is Levio-Kadri-Brown really a thing? I guess Babs is thinking shutdown line.

Kappi and Johnsson are not 4th liners. Glad to have an embarrassment of riches but I rather see Levio and Brown play 4th line minutes.

:o It's the first preseason game of the season.
Yeah, but it appears the first draft of the regular season lineup has Kadri playing with these two.

Dermott pairing sucked. Still worried about our D... tossing grenades.

Your first preseason game is not a draft of the regular season. There's several players that watched the game on a TV. Are we to assume that Clark or Moore has a spot too? I mean, they were in the first draft of the line up.

Now, Brown could very well end up on Kadri's wing but I doubt that you see those 3 together very often.
Yep, I don't think Matthews has a spot on this team...

Looking at today's lines and yesterday's I think we can all assume that Babcock's first draft of the opening day lineup is:

Marleau-Matthews-Ennis
Hyman-Tavares-Marner
Leivo-Kadri-Brown
Johnsson-Lindholm-Kapanen

You can assume. I'm not assuming. I've seen one preseason game. Actually I watched one period. I'm not going to pretend that I know what the team will look like in two weeks. But go ahead.

I'm not sure what the argument here is. Babcock generally doesn't mess around in pre-season. Barring some serious unexpected performances, good or bad, the lines we're seeing here with NHLers are very likely going to be the lines we see in game 1 of the season.

I don't have time now to get the colors right.

Thanks for making the effort.  I was actually talking about using the natural shapes of the two circle halves to each make the 6 and the 9 shapes, and then the design would somehow have two 1s on either side that somehow fit in.  But to have proper 6 and 9 shapes, the whole symbol has to be mirror image.

Thanks for having a go, though!

This is what I was thinking of initially:

Gotcha.  That would look cool, but I don't know how you'd do the 1s to match the curviness of a yin-yang as displayed here.  Probably would need to redraw the y-y shape using the beveled corners of the 6 & 9 as in the jersey typeface.

I wouldn't call it an argument. The poster had a big question mark around Leivo with Kadri and Brown. I simply said that we can't be sure that come the start of the regular season that the line will be in tact. Again, I agree that those assured a spot, can basically be penciled in but until I see Leivo play full time, I'd hesitate to assume he has a spot on the roster.
