Leafs take on the Red Wings in their 2nd last pre-season game. It's the middle game of a 3-in-3 stretch, so the Leafs are using a pretty AHL-y roster. Lines at practice today per Kristen Shilton:

Johnsson-Holland-Greening
Timashov-Froese-Moore
Leipsic-Laich-Leivo
Lindberg-Smith-Clune

Corrado-Valiev
Dermott-Polak
Holl-Loov
Brouillard-Hrabarenka

Enroth

Detroit lines:

Ott-Glendening-Miller
Bertuzzi-Lorito-Frk
Street-Aubry-Callahan
Svechnikov-Criscuolo-Tangradi

Lashoff-Sproul
Paetsch-Jensen
Hicketts-Russo

Poor Hamiltonians.

Didn't they see enough games like this watching the Bulldogs all those years?

Thats a BS lineup for someone who paid $200 to take my son to see an NHL game. I realize that rookies would be a major part of the lineup, but this is ridiculous for the price of admission. What about these rules the NHL put into place for just such a thing...

15.4 Exhibition Games.

(c) A Club shall be permitted to dress a minimum of eight (8) veterans for any Exhibition Game. For purposes of this Section 15.4(c), a veteran shall constitute either:

(1) a forward or defenseman who played in thirty (30) NHL Games during the previous season,

(2) a goaltender who either dressed in fifty (50) or more NHL Games or played in thirty (30) or more NHL Games in the previous season,

(3) a first round draft choice from the most recent year's Entry Draft, or

(4) any Player who has played one-hundred (100) or more career NHL Games.

I feel your pain, but there are some future stars there for sure, maybe use it as an excuse to peak your son's interest on the Marlies, could be much cheaper for you if he wants to go to a few Marlies games this year and see the players he becomes a fan of tonight.

As for the rules, I can't find the link but I heard they relaxed the pre-season rules this year due to the World Cup.

That rule isn't in effect this year because of the World Cup.

Was not aware of that. Thanks. Just called Visa and they refunded me in full. $100 a ticket is obscene for that lineup. The league really needs to address that moving forward. Ughh...

Hmmmmm think I'll be going out for pizza instead.  OTOH these guys will probably turn in a better performance than the "top" players did last night.  ::)

But, but, but... the crest on the front, not the name on the back.  ;) :P

I'm sure you aren't alone.

Admittedly I wouldn't be happy to pay that sort of money to see this lineup but if there is a "fix" to this issue going forward it's almost certainly going to be a shortening of the pre-season as opposed to really cracking down on roster construction for exhibition games.

Leipsic looks like he would really like to play in the NHL.

The fact that he won't but Greening, Laich, Holland, Michalek and Komarov are all in roster spots really isn't much of a testament to how this team has been put together so far.

Agreed.  He's exactly the type of player the Leafs should be playing on a third or fourth line this year.  I wonder if they actually try to move some of those pieces or if they just wait until their contracts run out.

Cost of trading for expiring contracts of middling/replacement NHLers to clear long term signed unwanted players that weren't gonna work with the newly forming core.

Even if you want to make the argument that none of those contracts could be moved in off-season(or Holland just bailed on), those are reasons for the cap hits on the books, not for those players making the NHL team.
