Game Notes

NYR
?Lundqvist (18-12-1, 2.89 GAA, .902 Sv%) will start for the Rangers. Lunqvist's save percentage is on pace to be the lowest of his career. He's been over .920 for 7 straight seasons
?The Rangers welcomed forward Mika Zibanejad back to their line-up this week. He missed almost 2 months with a broken fibula
?New York is coming off a wild 7-6 loss to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday. Lundqvist allowed 7 goals on 27 shots before he was pulled to start the 3rd period
?The Rangers currently occupy the 1st wildcard spot in the East, and are struggling to keep pace with the top-3 teams in the Metro after a very hot start

TOR
?Andersen (19-9-7, 2.68 GAA, .918 Sv%) will start for the Leafs
?(Temporary) life without Morgan Rielly begins tonight. Gardiner will take his spot on the tope line while Frankie Corrado will play his 2nd game of the season alongside Carrick
?The Leafs are currently 3rd in the Atlantic. A win tonight would tie them in points with Boston while still having 5 games in hand

Lance Hornby wrote this regarding Corrado in his article today:

But after snapping in public a few weeks ago about sitting so long, which included a shot at head coach Mike Babcock, he won back favour by accepting a two-week, seven-game conditioning stint with the Marlies that ended Sunday.

I swear to god, Corrado's comments that day have gotten more and more vicious after every week that's passed. What he actually said really wasn't all that controversial or noteworthy. He certainly didn't "snap" and he certainly didn't take any shots at Babs.

Didn't Corrado say he wasn't a "Babcock" guy?

That would be pretty glaring.

Here's what he said regarding Babcock:

?I talked to Lou and he?s been supportive with me,? Corrado said. ?He told me he likes me, and he wants me here. It does make me feel better about the situation, but at the end of the day, the coach is the one who makes the lineup and if the coach doesn?t like you, then you?re not going to play. And that?s where I?m at right now.?

Sure, but what part of that is particularly shocking? He's been scratched a million times. Babcock wouldn't be doing that without a reason. There's clearly something Babs doesn't like about Corrado as a player.

I've a bad feeling about this one tonight, due a loss and could be a let down game...

[With] Rielly injured and Gardiner bumped to the top pair, the drop-off there isn't the biggest concern in Toronto. The most pressing issue is that the Leafs no longer have Jake Gardiner on their second pair and will instead be leaning on Hunwick-Polak in bigger minutes.

That's where you'll see the difference. It'll be noticeable precisely because Toronto has had such a steady presence on its second pair this season. It has had a defenceman as good ? or better ? than their No. 1 D.

They're pretty evenly matched in this snapshot of time, though Rielly is 4 years younger in age.

Nearly every time I've felt this way before a game this season, they've surprised and won. So let me second your opinion about what I think will happen tonight.  ;)

Was just keeping him fresh for the impending playoff run.

Like that time when I was 4 and pulled back a wind-up car from one end of the house to the other...

Hate to say I agree with Arn, lets hope they prove us wrong

I don't know about this one. We didn't look particularly great against Buffalo but the Rangers are slumping. Hendrik has looked awful lately. Hopefully that continues and we can sneak out a win. Andersen needs to be better to he has been average last few starts.

i don't know about any game.  but i know the old rules don't matter.  the rangers have lost all the games since coming back from their break, the leafs have won them.  It would seem unlikely that would continue but they got past the dreaded first game on home ice after a road trip ..this team competes.  If the rangers bring their all they can beat us, but if they play sloppy leafs win.

I'm not convinced this team has what it takes to make the playoffs this year.
Well that is the wonderful thing, no one expected the kidz to play over their heads (or are they) or get the fantasic goaltending we have received. So the playoffs were part of a future plan while the youngsters honed their talents and gelled as a team. This seems to have happened much more quickly than expected. Will they fall apart, perhaps and if the do does this adversity make them stronger for the future??
So while it would be nice to get into the playoffs and make a run, this would have far surpassed any of our expectations at the seasons start.
The nice the Zanzibar is it all good. :)

join the group of pretty much everyone at the start of the season.  if the leafs miss it'll be disappointing but far from devastating.  I do believe they've already shown they're an improved club over last season which i think was the step in the right direction they needed.  Now the boys will get to play some hockey down the stretch that matters and hopefully they'll learn from that process whether it results in the post season or not.
