Ranking Prospects 2025-26

G0ahkjLXAAAo91Q

Just for visual shorthand while watching games with unfamiliar names, the Marlies players are in the 30-50s range of numbers. Anyone freshly brought in by draft and still junior, or slated for ECHL will likely have a higher number.

Some exceptions: Danford is still junior eligible but is wearing 38. Tverberg has been a Marlie for a couple of seasons already and has what appears to be a vanity number 77

2 games doesn't say too much. Some clearly struggled with the pace and physicality of the better prospect pipelines they were facing (bottom feeder NHL teams). Some rose to the occasion and put the Leafs on notice that they should get a longer look.

I was only able to catch G1 P1 (which was terrible), and a bit of G2 P3 (where Tverberg cleaned up a nice pass from Quillan off good OZ pressure), so I reserve judgment, especially of the players who are still junior.

Doesn't seem to be much, if anything, out there regarding how Owen Conrad's looked at the earlier development camp and over this past weekend (he only played in game 2). He was one of the guys I was most curious about after being considered one of the top undrafted players from this year. I guess we'll see if he just quietly stood out if he gets an invite to the main camp but at this point that feels maybe a little unlikely.

edit: actually I only read MLHS's write up on the weekend, didn't notice the PPP one that was posted too. They seemed to have some positive-ish things to say about Conrad.

I watched 5/6 periods, except for P1 G1.

It's difficult to come to any sort of conclusions, it was basically chaos for two games. Such a disparity in ages and experience and this is what you get.

Peksa was great.

I'm not sure what to make of Cowan yet. As the MLHS article alluded to, he seems to be trying to be more defensively responsible which while he is learning to do is neutering the offensive dynamo he was in the OHL. I think it may take him a year in the AHL to round out his game. You can see the tools are there, he just looks hesitant.

Danford looks like he has the tools to be pretty good stay at home D with some potential for offense.

Hopkins is impressive. Very smart player. Will be interesting to see his progression.

Nansi who just turned 18 a few days ago didn't look out of place. His skating is little suspect, but overall I noticed him out there for the right reasons. Will be interesting to see his progression.

Those were the ones that stood out for me. Out of the older prospects, Haymes and Quillan were the two that seem to have any potential NHL impact.

I only caught the first period.

Valis got a cushy starting job but was clearly not ready for the pace of play.

The centres were good. The NCAA guys were more ready-looking at this juncture. If Quillan can hold down 4C regularly, Laughton could be a good LW option for Tavares-Nylander.
Game 2 notes

I only had the one-ish period of viewing, but immediately, John Prokop looked better than Cade Webber did in last year's games.

I like the idea of Holinka on the wing, even though he is currently situated as a 2-way C.

Sam McCue looking lost is a bit disappointing, but not too surprising. I was hoping he'd do what Landon Sim did and just run around wrecking opposing plays and getting open for his own linemates.

For a lot of players, it's just the adjustment to new teammates, new system all up against older, better opponents, all at once.

#32 - Owen Conrad - LD

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVED Owen Conrad in this one. As a UDFA that a lot of people (including myself) felt should’ve been drafted, Conrad came into this game and just competed so hard.
