Reality check.....

Are the Leafs Bad talent wise, is it coaching, or are they a bunch of lazy, and without drive.

I think they are lazy, and at the same time I also think RC needs to change his system, or at least alter it. as for Holland I think RC misused him, and since we have fallen so far why waist the 2nd round pick, Good move  Nonis. I as a long time leaf fan think we have a good team but at the same time, a lazy one that has quit on the coaches system.

A die hard I am, but I am tired of this team letting me as a fan down. You know its bad when game night comes and I am not excited.

Yeah, it sucks right now. Team's a mess. I'm just going ahead and adopting a west-coast team. Well, maybe not a full-blown adoption but maybe I can be a foster-fan or something.

What do we do when nutman has lost hope?

Bolland is coming back...and everything will be fine again...you'll see.

Players will be motivated and score more, we will win many games even make the playoffs, women will find me inexplicably attractive and my boss will recognize my hard work and start paying me an extra grand a week...

Oh Reality? We're probably doomed...just find solace where you can and try not to look devastated.

Sorry this thread sounds almost like the chicken little thread. I am not happy with the way the team is playing either. But I am not willing to give up hope as of yet. That is my choice. We need to still have a thread for us that still believe because as all of us here know that tank 2014 thread will be started shortly.

Checking in on reality now? The reality's the same as it was 6 months ago: Nonis made a bunch of sideways moves that might've improved things slightly but ultimately didn't and, more damningly, failed to address the team's real needs; the coach continues to employ a system that is too passive and lets the other team dictate play; and neither that system nor roster decisions play to team's strengths. The worse skaters, poor roster decisions, and still inadequate system have been covered up by the best goaltending the team's had in a decade -- but at some point, top 5 goaltending's going to fall to top ten, top 5 shooting percentages are going to regress. When things aren't perfectly aligned and the bounces aren't going your way, you need to be playing a better game than this, with more talent throughout the lineup, to keep pulling out wins. But Carlyle's here and who he is and Nonis's decisions were made and are what they are, so that ship's sailed.

People should be more frustrated that a decent playoff roster was turned into one that'll be lucky to claw back into the race, that the assembled talent isn't playing to their strengths during their peaks/primes, that (after the Raycroft, Toskala years) the team's wasting the best goaltending it's had in years and years.

Seriously. What's even the point of being a sports fan if it doesn't make you appropriately frustrated?

Well, I didn't mean to dismiss the pleasures of picking out which Gilmour jersey you plan to wear in front of the TV while the Leafs get shelled.

Might as well. I would think a jersey would just get in the way of the seppuku that any real fan would commit if the shot differential doesn't improve.

Like I said, and still think this team is way better then it has preformed.

Can be better than it has performed recently, sure, way better in the sense that they don't have to fight all season for a lower rung playoff spot? No.

This team has top six talent. The only problem is it has 30th place drive, and a coach that needs to get with the times.

I disagree that they have top 6 talent. I think they have a good 2nd line, with about 5 players on it. I don't see the makings of a first line on the club currently; at least one that could compete game in-game out.

You honestly believe that Lupul and JVR both can't play 1st line?

Or are you somehow referencing Kessel?

*Edit* Just checked and point wise, JVR, Raymond, and Lupul (Prorated or 31st otherwise) are in the top 30. That means of the 30 highest scoring Left Wingers we have 3 of them.

I think you're either over estimating the average points a Left Winger gets or just trying to poopoo our team... because man you be crazy :P

That's really not all that impressive a stat, and doesn't relate to my comment about not having a true first line.

We have one player who is top 50 in scoring, who has a fairly one dimensional game, and a negative plus minus rating.

This doesn't scream "top six talent" as far as I would gauge.

After losing their 2 best centermen for quite a long time. The HBO intrusion in their life, the winter classic involvment. They don't know whether they are celebrities or hockey players.
I like to believe that they will put their game together and find their way into the playoffs come April..they will need Bolland and all the veterans to step it up.

And I believe they have it in them to do just that. if this team played the rest of the way with heart, they would be in the playoffs easy.

You mean the player who's #22 in scoring before tonight started and now #18 before tonight is over (Could go higher).

Also the other player who you for whatever stupid reason cut out at #54 (JVR) as if 50 is an appropriate number in any conversation about this.

They're also both in top 30 in goals scored.

The 1st line is 3 players. Over 30 teams that's 90 players. Of the top 90 scorers in the league we have 2. Seeing as some teams like the CBJ only have 1 player in the top 90 and the player comes in at #89. I think one place we can't complain about too much is the 1st line.

Go ahead and complain about our bottom 6, especially our 4th line. Please go on and complain about our defense as much as you want. But i just don't see the 1st line needing much tweaking.
