Report: Amy Winehouse found dead at home

Some of her handlers need to take some of the blame.  She tried going back on tour and had no business being anywhere outside of rehab.

This article attempts to address that  queation:

Dr. Drew Pinsky used the occasion of her death to belittle the idea that short stays in rehab do any good for a true addict.

"I don't care what the specific cause of death was ? she (had) a fatal condition," Pinsky said on CNN. "Opiate addiction takes months to years to treat... Just as with the diabetic, if they don't take their insulin, if the addict doesn't do the (full, daily) program, they inevitably in all cases will relapse, and when it's an opiate addiction, it's a progression to fatality. The prognosis for an opiate addict is worse than the vast majority of cancers."

There are many afflictions you would probably consider 'disease' that involve part genetic predisposition and part lifestyle choice.

Studies have shown similar traits to addiction.

No problem calling it a disease for me.

It's more of a disorder, but, that's getting pretty technical.

Music was her soul, her life was her torment, addiction became her disease.

Rest in peace, Amy Winehouse.

I'll never call addiction a disease.
Disease...
....a disordered or incorrectly functioning organ, part, structure, or system of the body resulting from the effect of genetic or developmental errors, infection, poisons, nutritional deficiency or imbalance, toxicity, or unfavorable environmental factors; illness; sickness; ailment.

going by the definition...I would call it a disease....
going by people I know who were addicts...I would call it a disease...

whatever you want to call it...it's really a shame that she didn't seek the help in time....27 is way too young to die.

LONDON (Reuters) - Toxicology tests showed there were no illegal substances in British singer Amy Winehouse's system when she died last month aged 27, her spokesman said on Tuesday.

In a statement, he added that alcohol was present, but that it could not be determined what part, if any, it played in her death.

"Toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death," the statement read.

"Results indicate that alcohol was present but it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death."

It added that Winehouse's family were awaiting the outcome of an October inquest into the "Rehab" singer's death.

So Amy didn't die of an overdose? That's very surprising.

Well, it's important to note that it's her spokespeople that are saying so, not any official sources, so, you know, grain of salt and such.

I've just skimmed through quite a few articles from pretty reliable outlets and it seems her family received the toxicology test results from authorities, doubt they'd try to massage it that much but I get what you're saying and we'll wait and see what the inquest reveals in October.

It's almost a better 'lesson' for kids this way.

Illustrating that you can die from the damage of drug use, even
When you've 'cleaned up'. You don't have to OD for drugs to kill
you.

Yeah and they did go out of their way to say 'illegal drugs' in the article so maybe she OD'd the new fangled Hollywood way, booze and prescription pills along with a worn out body, though I'm speculating a bit there.

This is merely proof that dope testing is really falling behind in terms of technology.

Even Amy Winehouse can beat a dope test.

I think that the death of Amy Winehouse, from causes unknown, clearly reinforces what I've always felt about supply-side economics and the use of the designated hitter rule and clearly shows that we need to invest more in our public schools.

That makes me want to quote Rumsfeld and now I feel a bit dirty.

One would think that was fairly obvious.

No longer 'causes unknown'. It was booze. 400+mg/100ml (legal drive limit is 80mg/100ml).

But no drugs I understand... What an unfortunate tragedy.
