Rick Nash potentially available

Friedman made a point on the Hotstove about the approach Howsen should take, namely that he should look at more teams than just the short list that Nash has provided and bring the potential deals to his attention as they come along.

That said, Philly wasn't on that 'short' list that's been speculated, not entirely sure what to make of that except an awful lot of smoke.

"It is believed any deal between Toronto and Columbus would have to include a combination of players that could include Nazem Kadri, Luke Schenn, Nikolai Kulemin and possibly James Reimer."

SOLD!

Guess it's the Leafs' turn on Howson's whirlwind tour of teams on the list.

Not too sure on Kuli, biggest top 6 forward we have in a already small group.  If it means we get to keep our first though, I may reconsider.

Dealing Kulemin would be a grave error. so he is off a bit this year, who wouldnt be after loosing your parents, and a plane full of your best frends. he will bounce back better and stronger next season, and I for one would like it to be with us. If it meand putting him in the deal ,no thanks you can keep Nash.

Does Kulemin have the potential to be top 10 scoring in the league?  Nash does.

He'd be on a plane tomorrow .... no question.... grave error? Hardly

He has size, is one of our best two way players, and he has 20 -30 goals a season written all over him. this season is like I said an odd off season due to so many things in his life going wrong. he has what it takes to be a top line player and it "will" come out.

The drop off is pretty steep however, like we talked about in the Kooli thread, it may be the biggest by a young player in recent history.  I hate to see him go though because we would be dealing him when his value is the lowest and he is a big body, something we are short on in the top 6.  Schenn, Reimer, Lombardi/Armstrong (to make the cap work) and a First or no deal is what I proposed and that is pretty much all I think I would give up.  I think when all is said and done, Kadri and Kulemin are worth more than that first so I don't do that deal.  If I include Kuli, the first rounder and Kadri come off the table.

I overvalue every Leaf (except maybe Komi) because I tend to like the team I cheer for. Hence, I suck at putting together proposals. Nash has been one of my favourites, though, and it'd be great to get him.

I'm just going to let Burke do what he's going to do (or not do) and then worry about criticizing him afterword.

If every young guy plus a few of the vets are worried about whether they will still be a Leaf the next day it's no woder we're playing like crap. If we're going to do a deal lets get it done so we can move on and not end up in 10 th by next week.

Funny -- they ran into each other at a hotel and said, let's do breakfast.

As for the reported deal: while it's unlikely to be accurate, I would do that one.  The person I'd hate to see go most is Schenn -- we need a defensive defensemen and despite his struggles he'll be a very good one.  Kadri and Reimer are intriguing because they both have upside.  Kulemin is hardly a dealbreaker.

I would prefer keeping Schenn and giving them a #1 instead.

That's code for Burke hiding behind the fern in hotel lobby for 3 hours lying in wait for Howson to appear.

Well what else is BB going to say?

"Yeah I sat down with Howson and just grilled the hell out of him about Nash. I had him up against the wall at one point by the scruff of his neck but we were broken up by hotel security. Either way, im pretty sure we've got a deal for players x,y and z. I also had the BLT special, it was delightful."
