Rick Nash potentially available

Which is more likely to happen?
Miss the playoffs, trade the next 10 years first round picks for Crosby(who never plays another game due to concussions), and a lifetime contract extension for Wilson.

So things could be really worse, eh ?

Komisarek could have a twin brother and we would sign him too  ;)

Why don't we just clone Crosby and be done with it?

Busy day ahead. Leafs will push CBJ to make decision on Nash. Would like to know by tomorrow. NYR will likely do the same. Brown is plan B.

Interesting! This might be an interesting deadline. As luck would have it, I also have Monday off! :)

I don't like the sound of this.  Going to give up a boatload of players for Nash if they accept and it's a gamble as to whether or not it actually helps the Leafs.

How could he not help? Doug MacLean would trade the whole Leafs roster, and throw in some Marlies for good measure to get Nash. He's that good. ;)

Re: Nash...

The Carter trade has me thinking Howsen is (foolishly) going for more "now" players than future prospect types which might work in Burke's favor if he wants to spare the top prospects from trade and can also clean out at least one of his iffy mid-tier contracts in the process.

I think it will still take a Kadri to get it done but maybe a package around Kulemin+Mac as the "now" pieces could get it to happen.

This also would free up some roster spots for younger players to move up, which in the past has probably done as much good for the stretch run as anything for this team in the past few years, plus many like Colbourne are due.

I can't stand listening to MacLean go on and on about Nash.  When he's willing to trade a 21 year old defenceman who is currently the best guy the Leafs have back there, you know he's lost his marbles.  I know he drafted Nash and all, but come on, he's not Gretzky.

I wouldn't be so sure about the boatload... LA didn't give a boatload for Carter, and they moved a d-man they apparently had been trying to move for a while now.  That trade doesn't look great at all for Columbus to rebuild a team.  I don't think Howsen has a clue.

But boy oh boy I almost don't want Nash here for the sole reason we have to listen to McLean talk about him EVEN MORE than he does already.

As for Nash not helping?  Oh he will help.  A lot.  He wouldn't guarantee a playoff spot or anything for this year, but he would sure help in a lot of areas.

You're right Nash would help, but you can't go taking away bright pieces from the future like Gardiner.  He's the best surprise of this entire season so far, to trade him now when you don't know how good he can become would be crazy.  MacLean seems to think it's a no-brainer to trade Gardiner as if the kid is worth nothing.

McLean is an idiot and no I would not trade Gardiner in the deal.

D-men with his abilities and at his age is already established and playing top NHL minutes are not the type you give away in any trade.  I suggested in another thread that Gardiner's trade value if he were to be dealt right now would be substantial.  Would you move him for a top 5 pick in the draft this year? I don't think I would.  What about a top prospect like a Huberdeau or a Ryan Johansen?  I would think about it but I don't think I would.

I'd love Nash but depending on what it might take to land him, Brown might be my plan A.  :-\

The fact that Howson was very motivated to move Carter because he was openly unhappy, which tends to not have a positive effect on the dressing room, definitely impacted the value he was offered and the value he was willing to accept. He needed to unload Carter. None of that is true with Nash.

Agreed. I hope Burke lands one of these players, but it won't be easy. Nash would, without question, be my target.

HC panel saying right now the two major players for Nash today are the Rags and Leafs... Part of me feels it would really sting to be runner-up to NY for Richards (not that I think we had much of a chance at him anyway) and Nash all in the same year.
