Round 1: Blues (C1) vs. Wild (W1)

And the Blues are done. Great team, shoddy goaltending. I wonder if they look at Bernier this summer?

mirtle: St. Louis scored only seven non-empty-net goals in five of the six games in the series. Not sure this was all goaltending.

I know that doesn't tell all the story, but, I don't think they'll see the issue being between the pipes. They're a lot like the Sharks used to be - great regular season team, but lacking in that extra gear they need in the playoffs. They'll probably try again with a new coach and some minor changes before anything else.

Must be tough for teams in the West. There's pretty much always going to be a very, very good team eliminated in the 1st round. I think that the Sharks greatly overreacted to getting beat by a complete juggernaut last year. This Wild team might not be quite that good, but they look like they can go pretty far. But you're right, the Blues likely won't go overreact that much. Hitchcock's contract is over, I'd imagine that they'll both decide it's time to part ways. I could see guys like Oshie, Berglund, and Jackman maybe being available.

Berglund's been rumoured to be available for a few years now, so, it wouldn't surprise me if he's moved. I doubt Oshie will be moved, and Jackman's a pending UFA, so . . .

It's not even that much of an upset. The Blues had nine more points than Minnesota but that's almost entirely a function of grabbing more loser points and Minnesota having no goaltending for the first third of of the season. Parity means these series are going to be toss-ups and while St. Louis is a good team, they're not a great one.

Many make mention of the Blues' depth, but I look at that entire roster and see 2nd round fodder at best.  It's not even the goaltending.  I think their forward group is quite overrated.

Is Bernier anything different than Jake Allen at this point?  I mean, I certainly would look to try and make moves for pretty much anyone that isn't still on their rookie contract but I'm not sure that Bernier is the calibre of goaltender they look to acquire.

Considering their cap situation, I'm guessing that they won't really have the rope to try and acquire the kind of goalie you're thinking there.

And with that said, considering who it is who just beat them in net...why would they? I don't know why they wouldn't just try and salvage someone off the scrap heap and cross their fingers.
