Where does our first rounder land then?

#25-28 I think .. teams that won their division but did not play in the Conference Finals ...

So, now that they're out can I offer maybe a bit of a hot take? Like, kudos to Boston's regular season, it was a legit accomplishment but...it always rang a little hollow, right? Like, nobody really came up with a convincing explanation as to why this Boston team was the greatest regular season ever and it was mainly constructed a lot like their other teams so I guess I was always kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop.

And Ullmark turned into a pumpkin.

I'm a boston fan, so this stung a bit. But the leafs have to be pretty pumped about how things are going.

They've got home ice
They've got an extra day rest
No major injuries
Playing a very beatable team 2nd rnd

GLG!!

This quote by Marchand stood out to me when he said it in February but obviously I kind of had to wait before I could make my point about it:

The Bruins won nothing while all their stars (Bergeron, Marchand, Pastrnak) were on very team friendly deals. Arguably 3 of the best contracts in the league during the last 6-8 years.

Just watched a recap.

I will stroll into work Monday morning with all the Boston and Montreal fans there and say nothing. I think ignoring it will make it worse.

I was thinking I?ll start with nothing and then slowly add leaf items until by the end of the day I?m wearing a jersey a hat drinking out of a leaf mug etc etc?

I absolutely agree with this. I remember arguing with my brother and brother in law about the very same thing.

Great, solid abs talented team? Of course. But one of the greatest teams of all time? GTFO

I?m not even sure if they?d crack the top 10-20 best teams of all time.

Hard to deny they had one of the most successful regular seasons ever, but, that's really all it is - they had a very successful season. Everything clicked for them until the playoff started. Does that make them one of the greatest teams ever? No. In terms of the on-ice talent, definitely not.

I?d be waving a giant 100% flag if I was standing beside you right now.

That's what I mean almost. Other than "everthing clicked" there's just no compelling explanation here. Like if I gave you a look at both team's rosters without telling you how they did pre-season there's no one in the world who would have said there was a 40 point difference between the Panthers and Boston.

I mean other than the goalies, there wasn't even like a "Pavel Zacha had 45 goals" kind of thing here.

Yeah. It was really mostly the result of being able to maintain a good level of consistency while getting that excellent goaltending.
