Round 1: Ducks (P1) vs. Jets (W2)

Good thing the Ducks got that over quickly. That was one physical series that would have worn both teams down with each passing game.

Incredible atmosphere in Winnipeg. Good on them. Franchise still awaits its first playoff win.

Anaheim 5  Winnipeg 2  Anaheim wins series 4 games to 2.

Warning: Whiteout in effect in excess of 19,000.

We've seen towel-waving and we've seen towel waving of various colours be it orange, gold, white, but not a total whiteout, a tradition that harkens back the last time the Winnipeg Jets were a hockey here in Manitoba's capital city.

All the cheering in the world couldn't prevent the Anaheim Ducks meticulously eliminating the Jets from further playoff contention.

As was the case in this series, Winnipeg scored first only to have the Ducks come back on Ryan Kesler's two goals, all the goal-scoring the Ducks really needed to seal the win.

Mission accomplished.  Wipeout done.  Whiteout over.

Darn, I apparently went to bed before seeing Pavelec revert back to being a terrible goalie? I wonder what the future holds for the Jets. They stood by Pavelec for so long, I'm sure this one season will buy him another few years there. I think that they're in for a big crash next season.

Hampus Lindholm and Jacob Trouba both impressed me quite a bit in this series. Lindholm has a lot of Rielly in his game, Trouba's a beast in most aspects of the game. They both made a blunder or two though that reminded everybody that they're only 21 years old. With how great Rielly has been it's a little weird to think that he might not even be the best defenceman from his draft. Those two would definitely give him a run for his money.

I will say in Rielly's defense that Trouba is playing in a much more stable environment and Lindholm has far better team support as well as a fantastic team structure to develop in.  That Rielly is still a candidate to be the best defenseman from the class despite playing in this mess in Toronto is a testament to his ability.  Lindholm is really a fantastic prospect.  I think if I had to gamble that I would bank on Lindholm having the better career.  I think is overall game is slightly better than Rielly's.

It was a nice goal by Etem, I got slapped by the old lady when I cheered after that goal haha

Looking at the gif above, I saw one forward make a Jason Allison like attempt to backcheck, one dman look ridiculous in falling down trying to throw a hit with his head and another dman sliding across the ice trying to cover up for the others.

They went into the playoffs as one of the better possession teams in the league, especially since the trade deadline (see below) so I'm not sure why you think they'll have a big regression unless you think it will be solely due to goaltending?  I think it was clear they didn't have enough playoff experience AND they were dealing with too many injuries to beat the Ducks.  Now they have some experience in the playoffs and hopefully they can be healthy next year.  Goaltending, I agree, still remains a question mark.

- According to Scott Cullen "The Ducks (54.4%) and Jets (54.1%) also have the best score-adjusted possession stats since the trade deadline of any teams in the playoffs..."

Yeah, it's largely goaltending. Pavelec had a .920 save percentage this season. He was a .904 goaltender the 3 seasons before that. I can't see him being over .910 next season. I do think that the Jets have a pretty good team beyond goaltending though.
