Round 2: Capitals (M1) vs. Penguins (M2)

The Caps just can't get it done I guess.  This year I thought they were going to the final for sure.

I'm not so much bothered by the fact that the team traded Kessel away, it's the apparent disdain that Shanny seemed to have toward him that will always irk me. Ah well. Probably no Matthews without that move anyway.

Maybe no Matthews. Then again, would a 30 goal season from Kessel won them many more games than a 20 goal season from PAP...? If they sign Stamkos, will he be much of an improvement on Phil..? In the long run, it doesn't matter much, and I'm happy Kessel gets to contribute to a contending team during the tail end of his prime. But the disdain, and that's exactly the right word for it, was a pretty shabby way to treat a talented, though awkward, player.

I've always like Phil...but to even debate he and Stamkos are close to the same level is ludicrous

Yeah, I'm as big a Kessel supporter as there is but Stamkos would clearly be an upgrade on him and probably a fairly significant one depending on the position he plays.  By career production alone is a pretty significant upgrade.

Pittsburgh  4    Washington 3.  OT  Penguins win series 4 games to 2.

Pfft. Over.  Done.  Finite.  Time for the golf clubs.

Those words aptly apply to the Washington Capitals, who must have thought that fate was clearly not on their side,

With the Penguins having taken a commanding 3-O lead and the Capitals ripe for elimination, a few strange things happened  -- the Penguins took three consecutive minor penalties (for delay of game)  -- which gave Washington all the ammunition it needed to tie the game up and send it to overtime,

Alas, it was the Penguins who had it figured out just in time, as Pittsburgh's Nick Bonino sent the home crowd into a frenzy in solving Washington netminder Holtby in OT.

Not that the Penguins had more speed or depth,  Not that the Capitals did not have either. Both teams were evenly matched -- defensively, in goal, In offIn offence, etc.  Call it fate, call it destiny, call it luck, call it what you will.  The truth is that this series was decided by the smallest of margins and in the end, the smarter one got the victory.

Great series.  A treat for hockey fans in seeing tue of the best teams in the East faceoff against each other, where the stakes as always, were high.  And as always, may the best win.

Congrats to the Pittsburgh Penguins.  And to the Washington Capitals.  Exciting hockey!

Career playoff points...?

That's all I got.

Yeah. Was just feeling sentimental.

So there is talk Fleury could be back during the ECF, surely they have to run with Murray now?

Feel free to trade him to Toronto to avoid the controversy, Mr. Rutherford.
