Phone hearing for Scheifele today so 4 max it seems.

Looks like the Habs are kings of the north.  Think Scheifele had just had enough?  I mean the NHL has to realize that when you let a team get away with stuff over and over again, tempers are going to flare.
They showed some of the stuff they were doing to him during the game and I think Scheifele had enough. Doesn't make it right or anything but I can see why he lost his cool. I will never understand why the cheap stuff penalties aren't called in the playoffs. Why is the glove to the face, out a guy in a headlock allowed? From what I've seen so far the interferenc, cross checking it's far worse in the North Division. Anyway if Scheifeile is out for say 5 games, the Jets are in big trouble. Oh well, it's a series no one really cares about anyway.

Playoff hockey. It's what the people want, apparently.

Not me. I love the intensity, love the hitting and all that. Hate the scrums, gloves to the face and that the rules aren't called anymore. It penalizes skilled teams. The amount of hooking and interference that the habs got away with is beyond ridiculous. Oh well, battle through it they say.

Ya, me either. I prefer goals and fun to violence and worry, but to each their own.

Gotta say, I thought the hit was bad but 4 playoff games (the equivalent of 8 regular season games) is pretty harsh for a first-time offender (particularly a star player). I guess it's nice to see Parros has it in him sometimes.

Again, I'm left frustrated with DOPS though.  Ryan Reeves acts like a moron with suspension history and gets 2 games.  Kadri gets 8 games.  This gets 4 games.  Wilson gets fined.  Absolutely no consistency and the people who are repeat offenders generally get off with lesser punishments.

FTFY

If there was a consistent standard, I think this punishment would be fine.

Of course, there's absolutely no consistency, and Scheifle did not fare well when he spun the Wheel of Justice.

So it feels like it's safe to say somethings:

1. Any team can beat any other team in the playoffs, we shouldn't be shocked at any result.

2. Montreal is the sort of team that can cause trouble for "better" teams in the playoffs.

3. Both 1 and 2 above are not good things for the sport.

4. The Leafs are not uniquely susceptible to any of it.

The leagues obsession with preferring Neutral Zone Trap/Clutch and Grab hockey over exciting offensive hockey is just bizarre.  You can can play physical without committing penalties over and over again but the NHL seems to think otherwise

Even though it's not ideal, I do find it to be pretty wild that the Canadiens are likely to go to the whatever conference final at this point.

I'm not watching the games anymore.  Is Montreal beating Winnipeg by interfering with them since it's allowed in the playoffs? It was a good strategy against the Leafs.

I don't think the NHL prefers any one style of hockey over another, they just think that nothing is better than the competitiveness that "parity" brings and so any play style that narrows the advantage that "better" teams has is fine by them.

From what I've seen, yes. Same garbage. The thing is though, I don't notice it to the same extent  in the other series.

So Montreal's D once again stifles the top line, Price is playing like he's in his prime, up 2-0, another upset coming? Dare I say New Jersey?

Not an upset really. Jets finished 14th overall and are missing some key players, just like the Leafs. Leafs lose JT and Foligno early on. Then Muzz. Jets lose DeMelo, Scheifele, Statsny. Everything is lining up for them nicely. Good on them to take advantage though with the non calls and injured opposition. Vegas or Col better watch out because their top guys will get hurt 1st game next round lol.
Jets aren't done yet but it's a tough road ahead. They need Statsny and DeMelo back now.
