Sam Carrick signs a one year deal

There is a fine line between truth and cynicism, perhaps the assements of Carrick and Frattin are spot on, perhaps one of them will amount to something we will appreciate down the road, only time will tell.
Also can someone reference me where the media refer to Gauthier as a goat. In the last game which was a terrible one for his team, he did have a goal and assist.
I would rather watch things develop than stamp all our prospects as completly deficient in one fell swoop.
Supposedly Babcock is a communicator and will bring out the best of what are in these players, perhaps there is some room for optimism for the future without succumbing to Hyperbole (as one suggested).

I...again, there is nothing optimistic or cynical in saying who actually played on the 4th line last year. It's not a viewpoint to say Orr and McLaren weren't on the team. It's not a commentary on Carrick to say that if you hope he turns out to be a high-energy, mobile 4th liner then the team already was using high-energy, mobile 4th liners and so that doesn't really represent a gain.

I feel like I'm having a conversation with a funhouse mirror.

as the best fun house mirror around, I was not saying Carrick was a gain. I am heading to Vegas now for some real funhouse stuff!
I will make a bet on double zero for you Nik.

You said that almost word for word

...Carrick has exceeded at every level he has ever played at, he just turned 23 and exactly the fiesty energy player that the Leafs need on the 4th line. Not flatfeet plodders like Orr and McLaren.  Not saying much but is an upgrade over the past few years

you are correct Nik I did say it, I guess I should review my quotes before making new ones.
I will not spread Hyperbole anymore!!!

Again I am not saying he is the second coming, but he does play hard every shift and that is what we are looking for (at least at this point).
If you saw the Marlies playoff game when they were shorthanded on a 5-3 for 2 full minutes, it was basically Carrick who shut them down. If he becomes a PK specialist then so be it.
God you guys are a rough bunch!

No, we're just realistic. It's great that Carrick played well in the AHL, but that's against a lower tier of player than he'd face with the Leafs. Those abilities are not necessarily transferable. It's great that he works hard, but just working hard doesn't help. You need to have the necessary skill level to turn that effort into results, and, quite frankly, I'm not convinced Carrick does. He didn't look like much more than an injury fill-in type when he was up with the team this past season. I mean, if he makes the Leafs as the 4th line centre, that's great. It means the Leafs are going to be in the running for the 1st overall pick.

All we're really saying is cut down the hyperbole. Carrick is a run of the mill, 4th line depth type. He's organizational filler. He hasn't exceeded anything. He is exactly what he was always expected to be.

Everyone knows Carrick is just a place-holder until Freddie the Goat is ready to take the league by storm.  ;)

Can't find reference to Fredirek the Goat on line.  Last article I saw on him was "Gauthier dominant in QMJHL playoffs" http://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/toronto-maple-leafs-prospects/2015/4/15/8417487/gauthier-dominant-in-qmjhl-playoffs

Would love to find out why FtG is the next Tyler Biggs?God we better start drafting a lot better.

I don't see any problem if he can fill a Jarret Stoll type role on the club.  If he ended up getting the 2nd most penalty-killing ice-time among forwards, I would say that's a great success.

Agreed.  And if he scores 30 goals that would make him an absolutely steal.

If he fills a Jarret Stoll type role on the club then the team might not win any more than they do but the after-game parties will at least be a lot more fun.

Phaneuf still controls the music though, right?
