I was at the game tonight and happened to be sat next to Sabourin's sisters and fiancee.

They were pretty excited for his goal.
And they should be. Good on him making the team and scoring even though it was against us.

If Ceci can just be as okay as Hainsey was, BARRIE REPLACES ZAITSEV on that other pairing with Muzzin. Man, that's going to be paying just massive dividends all year long. Loved his moves tonight.

Did anyone else thing Matthews celebrated a bit too hard on his first goal? Did he celebrate like that when goat scored?  I?m worried he?s a bit of a selfish a$$hole.

Shout-out to Jim Hughson for making me cringe in two completely different ways tonight:  The first when he used the word 'irascible' and pronounced a hard 'C', the second when spoke of Patrick Kane's legal problems blowing over in upbeat terms.

I wish he were a little more like Sundin was when he scored, but then again I worship single-t Mats and consider myself blessed to be resident in the same solar system he occupies so my opinion is hardly fair.

Unlike many here I like Hughson just fine but those were not his finest moments, especially the latter.  Sports prowess does not erase social transgressions.

The ceremony perfectly matched the selection.
I both yawned and shed a tear.

How did you decide on how you wanted to announce the captain?

Dubas: I think we went through a number of things. You look at the way it?s been done here before. In the end, we decided that we wanted to share it with the most fans that we could at the same time. With the arena sold out and with it being opening night and the number of people that will be watching, plus we just thought it would be important for our players and for our group? Sort of an understated way of doing it. No real pomp and circumstance. I know it may have been drawn out a little bit longer than everyone would?ve liked, but we thought it fit the person who was getting the honour and best fit what we were trying to do as an organization.

I was just trying to make a funny, Kyle.

After a difficult off-season, he scores a goal in the season opener against a rival to give the team the lead. He does a single fist pump, yells "woo" and then looks for his teammates to celebrate with.

So...no. That seems ok.

Yeah perfectly fine with me.

Ok. He just seemed a little too into himself to me.

C'mon man goal scorers love scoring. Have you ever seen Ovechkin celebrate? Nothing wrong with it

Is anyone else concerned that I fist bumped when Matthews scored his second goal of the game out of excitement.  I'm not even at the arena or a part of the team and I celebrated.    I also kissed my partner this morning before leaving for work.  Better check and make sure I'm not an egotistical asshole.

(gotta find my old LindrosBear and a few others apparently)

Is that a repurposed Reimerbear?

LOL! Actually it's a repurposed BerardBear!

Who (nearly) died to prevent the hat trick?
Brannstrom?

It looks like both were trying too hard there.  Brannstrom?s injury (from Matthews skate) was purely accidental.  Scary moment for both players there.  I was hoping Matthews wasn?t hurt either.

This too was out of mid-air(ish). He (unintentionally) clipped the fluttering puck with the ankle of his stick, which handcuffed Anderson who was reacting to a faster shot than the subsequent knuckle puck that lobbed over his glove.

Great play all around from Mikheyev. He saw where Barrie was going and went to the perfect spot.

So smooth

Tavares and Matthews are really good at this too when they see Marner or Nylander with space.
