The Seattle Mariners roll into town with similar issues as has befallen their opponents the Toronto Blue Jays.  The Mariners are having a similar year as the Jays, subpar performances  in every area.
As these two teams share comparables this season, the Blue Jays just came off winning their first back-to-back series wins with yesterday's comeback  over the Cleveland Indians.

The Jays, despite a spate of injuries -- the latest player to the DL is Kendrys Morales -- when their bats do get going even with an  uneven pitching prrformance from their starter or bullpen, they can prove unstoppable.  Unfortunately this young season,  these things have not happened in abundance.  Let's hope that this homestand that has already become a positive note can continue to bring it in the win column.

GO JAYS GO!

Mariners 2  Blue Jays  7

The Blue Jays Justin Smoak not only leads the team in RBIs with 21, but is proving himself a very effective hitter when it counts the most.  Such was the scenario  in the Jays latest win as Smoak drove in four runs along with teammate Steve Pearce who smacked a three-run homer, as the Jays put on a hitting clinic in their defeat of The Mariners.

Starting pitcher Marco Estrada had six solid innings.  He gave up the two runs but limited Seattle to just four hits.  The bullpen trio of Loup, Grilli,  and Campos was  effective in preserving the win and in keeping the Mariners further off the scoresheet.

The Blue Jays homestand so far is proving to be  the success story of this still young season.  The Jays have won five out of six, won their ninth game out of thirteen,  and are on a three-game winning streak.  Add to that the 17 homeruns the Jays have hit so far in the month of May as compared to the entire month of April and you have a recipe of surefire positive changes.

And so, Friday evening,  the Jays started Joe Biagini again and he was brilliant right up to the six innings he pitched.  He was relieved by an assortment of Loup, Tepera, and Osuna, and the Jays bullpen proved it's worth when required to.  Jose Bautista hit a monstrous home run in left field and with contributions from guys like Goins, Pearce, Devon Travis, & Pillar, the Jays were difficult to beat.

The team is  indeed playing more and more as a unit considering the situation with the several players sidelined due to injuries or in rehab stint.  Troy Tulowitzki may be about to return soon, but there's Martin, Donaldson,  Morales, and Liriano all still absent.

This homestand is continuing to give the team the confidence as it seeks to return to form.  Way to go!

Mariners 2  Blue Jays 7

The Toronto Blue Jays have been finding different ways to win in the absence of key players.  One of those returned to the lineup today -- Kendrys Morales-- who's solo home run along with Bautista's three-run homer powered the Jays to their fourth straight victory.

Toronto's starting pitcher Marcus Stroman was solid despite giving up two runs, and was relieved by the bullpen combo of Grilli, Loup, Leone, Smith, &  Osuna.  Leone got the win.

It wasn't until the sixth inning that the Jays broke Seattle's lead on Maroles' & Bautista's heroics.  A slightly tweaked baserunning also factored in some runs as the Jays have been,  shall we say, a little innovative in their usage of the offence.

Nice Mother's Day uniforms with all the trimmings!

Campos pitched in the ninth

How s-w-e-e-p it is!  The Blue Jays won all of their four games against the Mariners and  their fifth victory in a row.

Kevin Pillar, the A.L. hits leader, smacked a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to win it for the Jays.
Earlier in the sixth inning, Justin Smoak smashed a two-run homer that effectively tied the game.

Toronto starter Aaron Sanchez pitched solidly well into five innings allowing an earned run.  He was relieved by Dominic Leone.

Great Blue Jays Mother's Day!
