Well this year (and last) is the most important one in decades, with the rebuild starting to take, that they win the big prize at the draft.

Unlike many past years around this time of the season, it's been 'too little, too late', now it may be 'too much, too soon'.

Edmonton plays St. Louis tonight.

Great.

And they're winning 4-2 late in the second, while holding to Blues to 13 shots with 4 minutes to go in the period. Not bad.
In other things Tanky, Buffalo gets a point in an overtime loss, and Calgary up 3-0 on Winnipeg early in the second.

Wake up and stick that in your pipe!

EDIT: 5-2 after 2.

5-4 now. Relight the pipe...

How can a team like EDM draft tons of #1 picks and still be as bad as it gets ?

A high-end engine in a rickety chassis on uneven wheels won't get you too far.

Lol whut.

http://news.nationalpost.com/sports/nhl/the-symptoms-are-pretty-much-all-gone-toronto-maple-leafs-tyler-bozak-eager-to-play

Tyler Bozak is itching to get back into a game and after the latest round of Maple Leafs injury news, coach Mike Babcock could use him.

Out with a concussion for the past 19 games, Bozak is closing in on return and was a full participant in the team?s practice Friday at the Mastercard Centre. But without clearance from team doctors and medical staff, the earliest the veteran centre can return is for Monday?s game against Calgary.

Filling out the roster for Saturday?s home date against Buffalo will be the latest challenge for Leafs management thanks to four absences from practice. Forward Brooks Laich was absent for what Babcock said were personal reasons and will not be available against the Sabres; Leo Komarov?s injury is worse than first feared; Peter Holland suffered an undisclosed injury Thursday against Florida; and Milan Michalek is also doubtful.

Translation: Lou is ensuring the Tank rolls on this weekend.

Pittsburgh moves into non-wildcard playoff spot over the Isles with a big win against Philly today
and 5 and 6 points up on Detroit and Philly for last playoff spot. Looking a lot better than a week ago
for Pitt making it.

Who cares if the Leafs don't finish 30th.  The media has gone well out of their way to prepare us for the Leafs not drafting higher than 4th anyways.  ::)

Exactly.  When the Leafs are in 30th all I read is "but they have an 80% chance of not picking first" or something.  Then when they're close to being 29th or higher all I read is "they're going to blow their chance at Matthews".

I'd prefer 30th but it's not the be all end all.

Reimer's been doing very well in San Jose (yay, real defense).

Bernier's been doing very well in Toronto (yay, with Jake Gardiner as the 'veteran' of the D-group).

4 ? The Leafs have received .954 goaltending over the last five games, with Jonathan Bernier taking four of the starts and playing arguably his best four-game sequence of the season ? not that that?s saying much in such a down season. Bernier?s allowed five goals in four starts, and if we recap the goals in the three games since he shut out the Wings with a 38-save performance: Brian Boyle was left wide open at the bottom of the circle on a pass out from behind the net (no chance) vs. Tampa Bay; Ben Smith scored on his own net and Connor Carrick deflected one off of Nazem Kadri and into the net versus Florida, while the other two Panther goals were empty netters; last night vs. Calgary, both he had little chance on. It looked like Matt Stajan had beat him clean shortside for the 1-1 goal, but it actually picked up off Kadri?s stickblade and found the top corner, while Joe Colborne got inside on Morgan Rielly and got a bounce off of his body on a shot that was going well wide of the net. Longwinded way of saying: He?s been good and it?s a significant part of the Leafs? recent uptick in results.

Must've been some kind of Inverse Ninja Law going on with our goaltending situation.

I'm OK with the Leafs not picking 1st overall, as long as we have a top 5 pick I will be happy! Lots of good players in the top 5 and with our current front office, I am sure they can groom them to be an effective top 6 player for us.

I am really enjoying this team with how the kids are playing, it's fun to watch them play!

Well it can now be pretty much assured 30th is out and thus we can move even lower than 4th.

Can it really? I mean, the Leafs have won 5 out of their last 7 and, well, they're still in 30th. They're also about to start a run of games against teams to whom the results actually matter - and they haven't exactly excelled when those teams when they actually bring their "A" games.

There are plenty in the TO media who have dined out for the past 40+ years on the "lecture the delusional fanbase" storyline.  It's sure to get a rise and therefore editors like it.  Also the story pretty much writes itself so it's right up the alley of lazyass so-called journalists.
