Tank Nation: Matthews Edition

Edmonton and Vancouver still have two games against each other left (Oilers also playing Calgary) so we can still reverse the tank back into last.

We definitely need to lose against Columbus though.

6 games remaining, I for one would be fine with a 6 game losing skid to end the season.  Given that the biggest losing streak this season was only 5 games, and the Leafs are playing better now than before, it seems highly unlikely that this will happen.  Canucks and Oilers need both of their head to head games to be 3 point affairs.

Alex Nylander.

Hardly doom.

Yeah, I mean if the Leafs are going to spend the next 10 years with the next Swedish brother tandem I think I'm ok with that.  I mean obviously I would rather have Matthews/Laine/Puljjjiiiijjjarvi and probably Tkachuk but that's really not a bad consolation.

With some of the other talent they have in the organization to surround them with, me too - as long as they find a goalie and another top pairing defenceman (or have some of the less heralded prospects in the organization pan out.

Just once I'd like to see the lottery go to the good guys.  Leafs trying hard to win, let's say they finish 4th or 5th last instead of dead last (totally possible looking at the standings), and then BOOM Leafs win the lottery.

I can't believe the Jets are playing to lose like tonight...not much pride in the way their playing.I wonder how long Maurice is going to last next season.

I think Maurice is definitely coaching the Jets on borrowed time.  I'm not sure he lasts the off season, depending on available replacement coaches.

Time will tell.

I think its time to give the 'other kids' on the Marlies a shot to make the Leafs next year. We know what the Nylanders and Hyman's can do. Bring up Bibeau, Percy, Sam Carrick, Brennan and the 2nd tier types to see if any of them can contribute to the rebuild. Get the young stars ready for the AHL playoffs, and just have the Leafs coast in the rest of the way. It would really sort the haves from the have-nots and hopefully give the big team a better shot at drafting first overall.

Well this is better. A game too late perhaps?

Thanks San Jose. Was a loss against Vancouver a throw in from the Reimer deal?

Leafs re-take sole possession of 29th place via points percentage.

Those Oilers/Canucks 2 games are going to be huge in this tank.  One of those teams should be able to stay ahead of the Leafs (provided the Leafs don't win the last few)

They also guaranteed they can go into the lottery with no worse than the 8th pick. One more regulation loss (or wins by Buffalo and Arizona), and they can finish with no worse than the 6th.

Lots of games left to be played among tankers. CGY @ EDM, VAN @ CGY, VAN @ EDM, EDM @ VAN, CBJ @ TOR, CBJ @ BUF.

Winnipeg has a hell of a schedule left though, 5 games against: Chicago, Minnesota, Anaheim, San Jose, and LA.
