Auston Matthews just broke a NTDP (US under-18 team) scoring record previously held by Patrick Kane. He also beat Eichel's best season by about 20 points. I know there are more lottery rules involved, but next years tank is going to be interesting.

Tanks for the info.  8)

I can't wait until 2 games into next season and someone freaks out because the Leafs win one and are ruining their tank.

Exactly, must go 0-82 next season!  None of this finishing 4th worst!  Must end up being #1 worst overall!  :-[

I am up for that season, we need a generational talent to bring to this team, that is if we don't end up with Connor on our team

It'll take more than McDavid to make us a contender!

So do you keep McDavid in the OHL next year?

That is a million dollar question!  If Edmonton wants to develop him properly, they should let him play out is junior career IMHO.

Sorry to be piling on, but seriously, what does a player like McDavid have left to prove in junior? He will most likely be at least a point per game even on a lousy Edmonton team.

That's my point.  Wouldn't it be better to let him excel in junior, than to expose him to the lousy team in Edmonton?  I'd keep him away until they somehow shore up the D and goal tending.

And then maybe let him dominate the AHL for a couple of years.

I don't want to see him in the NHL until he's 27, at least.

A stint in Europe would probably do him some good after that.

He has already excelled in junior. Has one of the best PPG's in history in the draft year. He can't play in the AHL, he's ready for the NHL.

Yes scoring is low right now but both Crosby and Ovechkin had more than 100 points as rookies. McDavid should be able to have a very good season if he plays 82 games.
