I'll be rooting for Yost, that's a cool little story, I was a little emotional there.

Yeah - I like the guy and what his mother did for her children after hearing that.

Absolutely mate, to come from what is perceived to be a lesser league and make people take notice, what a job that woman did raising that young man.

I don't get trading up one spot. If NJ really preferred Brown, a third round pick is enough to make you not take him? If they didn't they didn't prefer him, why would Ottawa give up a pick?

Because Ottawa let them know who they wanted.  I remember Murray and Burke having that conversation about Kadri.  Murray wanted Kadri, and so Burke said no.

Babcock just told us Matthews will start the season as 3rd Centre behind Kadri & Bozak. And points out that Nylander will be on the wing.

Probably because if New Jersey was willing to trade the pick, and ended up taking someone who is apparently a bit of a reach, then it's probably less about Ottawa worried that NJ would take him and more that someone else would trade up to do it.

Not every GM is going to show their cards I would imagine, NJ might have given them the name of a couple of guys they liked at that spot, heck the Sens could have asked if they liked that player at that spot.

I imagine there is a bit of poker going on.

Well, I don't agree with Babcock.

That makes sense.

Babcock also made it clear that the best players will play that night. So, Matthews/Kadri/Bozak minutes will likely change game by game.

Shouldn't he earn his place first?

I suppose you could read into the statement that they think he already has.

I think he'll earn his way into the top 6 fairly quickly.

Indeed, it's worth noting that he apparently spent a fair amount of time talking with Babcock at the Worlds.
