That was an epic shutting down of Damian Cox by Mike Johnson there. He's really growing on me.

I was pouring another drink and missed it, can you run me through it?

It wasn't anything loud or anything. Cox just started off saying "You know, it's an unfortunate end to a great career but it has to be said, Datsyuk really put the Red Wings in a bad situation" or something and Johnson came in and said "Well, actually, Detroit knew about Datsyuk wanting to go home when they signed him to the three year deal and had to talk him into playing last year. So maybe they should have only signed one year deals but they knew the risks going in and signed the deal". That sort of ended the conversation.

Something along those lines.

The third year might have even been something Detroit wanted to lower the cap hit.

Thanks for the updates and the links to the feeds tonight guys. I've been up for 23 hours straight (it's been quite a day!) so it's time to hit the sack. Looking forward to seeing how tomorrow's picks pan out.

And how many teams do you think that is? I think more could have been had if Holland had to sweat it out closer to the opening of free agency.

Because of the ability to go 10% over the cap there's really no reason Detroit couldn't have signed whoever they wanted to and then looked to deal the Datsyuk contract after. So it's not like they were in that bad a spot.

Quitter.

You don't want to jinx anything but there's someone on the board still who I'd still really like at #31.

How do you do that?

Year 1 was 10M, year 2 was 7.5 and year 3 was 5.5 or something like that.

Year 3 lowers the AAV.

EDIT:  Never mind Deebo, I misread your comment anyways.  I thought you were wondering why they didn't do a contract that would lower his AAV in year 3...that's why I asked how you do that...you were saying what I was thinking, I just wasn't reading it properly.  My fault.
