The Jersey Thread

I don't know. I think the Leafs crest is too simple. The other original 6 teams have at least some kind of creativity combined with simplicity, but the blue maple leaf with Toronto Maple Leafs written across it just seems to easy.

Personally, I just said "outside of the Maple Leafs" because I think as a fan of the team I'm not going to be objective about it.

That said, I tend to agree with CF when he says that the best/most effective logos tend to be simple and straight forward. Look at Coca-Cola, Ford or Kellogs. Just the name of the company in fancy script but instantly recognizable. Look at your more valuable sports teams, the Yankees with just a N and a Y and the Cowboys with just a star.

And I think you're overlooking what's so effective about the Leafs logo. The 64-67 Leaf logo, that had been on the alternate jersey is more "creative" and artistic but ultimately I think it's less effective than the current one. The modern Leaf looks more like the one on the Canadian flag and that leads to easy association. Leaf-Canada-Hockey. It's all there, a national identity and allegiance to a sport, all in one simple symbol.

No, I agree. Simple is always better. Just look at Apple. And really, how creative can you be when you are named after a leaf? But I wish when it came to third jerseys at least they would be a little more adventurous.

I liked the "nazem kadri choice" 3rd jersey for the Leafs... But I haven't heard anything about it since they went public with his choice...

EDIT: Or is that just for the winter classic???

It sounds like it would just be for the Winter Classic.

As for the jersey itself, I don't think it should be used. I don't mind it persay, but I think you'd have a lot of people up in arms about it, if it was to be used.
