The "Mr. T" Man of the Match Thread, 2013 edition

MotM: Phaneuf, played an excellent game against Crosby.
HM: Kessel, three-point night and the huge point-clinching goal late.

Goat: Reimer sucked.

He was better in the second half and the Leafs didn't wake up until the third. I don't think the loss is on him.

He was much better in the third period, granted. But he was brutal early on. The bobbled slow shot directly at him that led to Crosby's empty-net gift was a potential killer. And that fourth goal especially was about as weak a goal as you find in the NHL, and at such a poor time.

I like Reimer and I'm actually thinking he's established himself as a pretty good No. 1 option, but he was not on at all tonight and I think he'd be the first to say it. He needed to be better against an offence like Pittsburgh, ie. not let in more than one goal that shouldn't have happened.

But again, well-earned point and full credit to Reimer for rebounding (until the shootout) and the Leafs for fighting back for the tie.

So you agree. He shouldn't be pegged as the goat.

You don't let in 4 bad goals (maybe 3) early in a game and then get let off the hook because you played like a NHL goalie in the second half.

Argeed... But why single him out when absolutely nobody stepped up in the first half either? It just doesn't seen fair to me.

That's kind of the burden of being a goalie. You get more accolades when you win but more people jump all over you when you lose.

With that said, I do think he deserves the blame on this one. The Leafs skaters might not have been great in the first 30 minutes, but at least 2 of those bad goals were 100% on Reimer and his not-so-much rebound ability.

Well, I think it was a bad effort by all to start and a great effort by all to finish. If folks want to hang Reimer out to dry, fine. I don't agree but I won't stand in their way.
