RANDOM OBSERVATIONS:
* Kessel built a large early points lead and then fell off.
* Not a single defenseman was named MotM in a win.  Only 10 defense MotMs, all in losses.
* Booth and Santorelli's top 5 finishes above are due to what Nik likes to call the "Mike Brown Effect."  Clarkson's Times Voted probably falls under this too.  Suffice it to say that it's not a sign of a good team.
* Among the leading forwards, Lupul and JVR had pretty abysmal years in the MotM voting.  Komarov pretty much entirely disappeared from the voting after Ovechkin concussed him.
* Phaneuf was dead in the water most of the year but picked up a few points in the end.  Rielly and perhaps Polak were the only 2 defensemen that IMO had passble years.  Gardiner got lots of Times Voted but not so many accolades.

Overall?  I've been watching the MotM voting pretty closely these last few years when I've tended it, and I'd say these votes, if parsed out, give a pretty accurate picture of how the team played.

The numbers this year are downright ugly all round.  Of the forwards, I'd say *maybe* you could call Panik, Santorelli, Winnik as price-for-value successes.  Of the D, Rielly got off to a poor start IMO but markedly improved as the year went on ... a very good sign as he avoided a sophomore slump on a joke of a team.  Polak was OK, but nothing special.  Gardiner is Gardiner ... iffy.  The rest were pretty bad or meh at best.

The goalies always get lots of votes but Bernier looked worse as the season went on and Reimer is way too inconsistent.

This bunch is ripe for a purge of Stalinesque proportions, rather like what we saw frontoffice-side today.  Can't come too soon, I believe.

(Thanks for the thanks Stickytape & Hockeyfan.)

Thanks for putting this all together ZBBMcF.

I'd add that I thought Kadri had a pretty solid year too, outside of his PP performance, which I still maintain was gimped by those out there with him on it.

He was by a mile the best 5 on 5 forward.

You're welcome, Patrick.  I agree re Kadri.  Still, and maybe I am being unrealistic, but it seems like he should be doing even better.  He's got the skill.

yes I enjoy this thread. I try to get in and vote every game.. win or lose.. even down the stretch when the trainers were probably the ones who should have been MOM... Great job with this.. Thank you
