I remembered this stat as I was following the game tonight and saw them get their first loss in that situation.

Yankees tied the game in the bottom of the 9th and won it in the 12th on a couple solo homers by the aging Raul Ibanez. Note that he was brought in to pinch hit for an ineffective A-Rod, who had already gone 0-3.

Or two pitches. But yes, those stats tend to go out the window when the playoffs roll around.

I feel the same way about Baltimore, actually. :(

Speaking of which, I knew that game would fall their way after the 8th inning meltdown by the Yankees hitters. 2nd and 3rd and one out in a tie game, A-Rod struck out. I was sitting there thinking "are they gonna pinch hit for him this time"? Unfortunately, Girardi wasn't blessed with the gift of hindsight until it was too late. :)

For me, if the Yankees lose the series, that will be the moment I come back to (particularly since I went to bed immediately afterwards). :)
 
I went to bed with the score 6-3 - did not expect the Cards to do it again, but here we are. :)

Nats are going to get even more heat for shutting Strasburg down now. It will be interesting to see how that plays in the dressing room.

It's not like Strasburg would have been able to cut down on 32 runs given up over 5 games, eh.

Honestly, I'm not sure if Strasburg would have really helped all that much. They were lucky they even got to game 5 after only scoring 9 runs in the first 4 games of the series, and a large part of their pitching issues had to do with their bullpen. Even with Strasburg, this was a series they didn't deserve to win.

I am not going to argue about whether or not he would have helped and whether or not they deserved to win.

Bottom line is the organization is going to catch even more criticism for their decision now that they have been eliminated in the first round.

I genuinely wonder how you could be a fan of any pro sport if bad calls upset you that much.

To be honest, I'm not anymore.
 
Looks like the Yankees are about to get swept out of the playoffs. Sabathia didn't make it out of the 4th, 6-0 Tigers.

I have to imagine he'll be playing somewhere other than New York next season. Can't see him leaving that much money on the table by retiring.
