The Official Complaint Thread!

Yikes. You are living out my worst nightmare since I moved to the country... well dun gone dry or pump blowed up.

Yeah, it's a concern for sure. To be fair, I could have done a little better with my preventative maintenance but that's only the third crappy plumbing issue I've had to deal with in 17 years here.

Once had the mainline break coming through the basement wall ( in December, digging ground like chipping chocolate, though not all six feet down ) and once had to replace the foot valve at the bottom of the line ( 30 ft ), pulling that out tested my swearing vocabulary pretty fair.

It is handy to have a few plumbing notches in your belt though, paying for that labour is crazy expensive.

Edit to add, yeah, well going dry is also a bad feeling, have only had that happen once before when I first moved in, similar dry summer.

I'm seriously contemplating dumping a whack of plumbers goop on the coupling and forgetting about it for a while, at least until I can get a real honest to goodness free couple days 'cause the cement around it isn't going anywhere easily and I've already filled the swear jar.

I hope that was only a pun, 'cause that would suck.  :P

Now that you mention it, that was probably subliminal on my part, I have been thinking about replacing the mainline from the upstairs bathroom so, yeah... :) ... :'(

Ugh, has anyone ever returned a rental car with a small dent in the rear corner panel? Someone must have dinged it with their door while I was at work. What can I expect them to make me pay?

They always tell me beforehand that if there is anything wrong with the car on return they'll make a claim on my insurance and I'll pay the deductible and have a fault claim on my record.

I usually just take the $10 a day or so coverage they offer that protects you completely if anything like that happens.

Im hoping to avoid an insurance claim, and maybe i can just pay them to have it fix. It would kill me to do though, because there are dents, scratches etc on the car that clearly they have never fixed. Im sure they charge people for the damage, then just pocket the money.

I should have taken the extra insurance, but to be honest i never thought about it. The car is being paid for by my insurance company as my car was rearended, and they didnt offer me the extra insurance.

As far as i know, you shouldnt have to worry.  unless its a massive punched in dent, but otherwise little stuff they wont call u out on it.

The car already has dents and scuffs on it, and i'm sure if you pointed each and every one out during the walkthrough, the guy would probably have said 'we don't sweat the small stuff' or something like that.

Kid's play.  Try doing retrofits in active sewage plants.  I've personally been standing in four feet of 'fun'.  Think they had a party there first because the pumps kept getting clogged with 'balloons' and 'plastic whistles'.  Neither worked however.
On another note, about 75% of the guys I work with are plumbers or apprentices.  And I do a ton of concrete work of all kinds so if anyone needs any advice, just drop me a message.

Well this was a bit of a let down day.

I was told that my contract with the company I was working for would be prematurely terminated in 2 weeks.  This after my boss (the contracting firm I work for) told me just a couple of weeks ago that I was safe when others were being let go then.

I'm not as bummed as I was when I was laid off the one other time as I saw the writing on the wall this time.  Company revenues were going down and since I'm a contractor, I'm one of the first to go.  And being in a non-critical position didn't help either.  Either way it was a good experience and look forward to my next venture.

Put my eldest dog down today.  :-[.
He was my brother and a handsome devil to the very end.  I remember when my mother was bed-ridden ill, he stayed by her side day and night, refusing to eat.  We spent yesterday evening by his side, singing softly to help him relax.

You gave us 12 years of wonderful companionship, I hope you felt the same and that you're at a better place now away from suffering and pain.  RIP, Sky.  I miss you terribly.

Sorry to hear.  They really do become part of our families.  My purebred newf has a life expectancy or 10 years.  He's almost 11 now, so we know that the day is coming...

I'm so sorry to hear that. I went through it two years ago and it's the worst thing I ever had to do. To this day, I miss Echo terribly. I told myself I'd wait a while before getting another and managed about a month/6 weeks. I can't imagine not having a dog in my life. It's just too large of a void.

It gets easier sucka. Don't wait too long to get another.

RIP, Sky.
