The Official TFC/Soccer thread

Not a bad group.  Canada will still be in tough to advance.
True, the commentators did say both Croatia and Belgium are older teams, so our speed could help us.  Really there are no easy groupings and we gotta be able to beat anybody.

TFC play to a 2-2 draw in Salt Lake on Saturday.  That is one beautiful venue, I have stayed over in Salt Lake on a few car trips and the mountain range is very dramatic backdrop to the city.
In any case two of our rookies scored their first MLS goals at the game.  Thompson and Jaden Nelson, both products of our development system and from the Toronto region.
And Nelsons goal was a beauty from long range.
We really are developing  a hotbed of talent especially from the Brampton/Bramalea region

I was at Wembley watching my team return to the English Premier League after a gap of 23 years. http://I was at Wembley watching my team return to the English Premier League after a gap of 23 years. Absolutely mental scenes there. What a day

For what it's worth I watched the Nottingham Forest-West Ham game this weekend. It was fun stuff.

It is wild to see Fulham, Brentford, and Newcastle in the top six of the league table, and Wolverhampton, South Hampton,  West Ham United and, of all teams, Manchester United right at the bottom.  It's early yet, but it will be interesting to see how this year plays out, especially with the effect of the World Cup in November looming.

Well, there's a lot of politics around it, obviously, but the actual football has started and we have our biggest World Cup upset ever - Saudi Arabia defeat one of the tournament favourites Argentina, 2-1.

Thought Canada were massively unlucky to lose t Belgium last night. They were the better team but perhaps just a bit naive in comparison to Belgium.

Agreed, we totally dominated Belgium, they just gotta connect a little bit better in the O Zone. Looking forward to a win against Croatia on Sunday

And pick the right person to take the penalty kick.

Courteous is a superb penalty stopper, but he didn?t gave to be - it was a dreadful penalty. He didn?t look like he was going to score it either, looked tense.

Canada looked tense the whole game.  They had Belgium on their heels and every cross or shot attempt was 50 feet wide of the net.  Good passing in the midfield and then it all fell apart when it came time to finish.

Losing 2-1 would have been a better thing than losing 1-0 I fear because they still haven't scored a world cup goal.  A draw in that game would have been huge for their chances to advance but I'm concerned about the game against Croatia.

It's been a strange enough world cup so far, even setting aside the host nation...

Teams that have impressed: France, Spain and Brazil

Teams that have been poor: Germany, Argentina and Belgium

Teams I wasn't expecting to be up to much who have surprised: USA are much better than I ever thought, Saudi Arabia, Japan and Canada

Great start for the Canadians against Croatia, goal after less than 2 minutes! Hope they can kick on.

I really hate the diving from soccer.  Canada has been wildly outmatched and there was been two absurd ?injuries? in the final 15 minutes where Croatia acts like they died to kill time
