I'm 3 episodes in so far. Episodes appear more self-contained, yet still clearly part of a whole. Easier arcs to pace your binge watch, and less of a watching a pot boil feeling than parts of season 1.

Anyone following season 2 of "better call Saul"?

I have to admit, I'm enjoying the heck out of it. I think it's even better than Breaking Bad. I didn't know Bob Odenkirk could carry a show, but he's unbelievably good.

Can I watch it without watching Breaking Bad?

I've only watched the first season of Saul so far (absolutely loved it, waiting for S2 to finish airing so I can just watch it all at once like I did S1), but I would say yes. There's some fan service here and there but generally it doesn't rely on needing to have any knowledge of Breaking Bad whatsoever. It's also a very different show than BB. I was worried they'd try to stay too close in tone to it, but they've done a great job of making it it's own show.

There's things you wouldn't really 'get' in the same way as people who watched Breaking Bad do, but all of us who watched Breaking Bad can't wipe our memories and watch it cleanly so I can't really say what those 'easter egg' type things would be like to someone who had never seen Breaking Bad.  I feel like it is designed to be watched without knowledge of the other show and the knowledge of the other show maybe just enhances it to some degree.  Or maybe it doesn't, if you already know the ending.

I like it quite a bit although I think right now it's mainly a testament to just how good the Breaking Bad team at the technical side of things that they've made this show as compelling as it is without really having the hook that Breaking Bad has. I can't say I'm overly interested in the details of building a class action suit the way I was in the drug trade and, as a result, I'm a little more interested in what's going on with Mike right now as opposed to Saul.

Finally got to see the first episode of the adaptation of Preacher that AMC is doing. It looks pretty fun, with some interesting changes from the book. The book was a pretty big deal for me so I'm really looking forward to a fresh interpretation of it. I know Garth Ennis is on board with it and there are some bits of the comic they can't possibly have on TV so it should be a new take on it but with the soul of it intact.

I've come to grips with the fact that it's never going to be particularly popular or even win a bunch of awards but dangit if The Americans isn't the best thing on TV right now I don't know what is.

I need a new binge show. I've tried Vikings (lasted 6 episodes, meh), Hell on Wheels (2 seasons, eventual meh), Daredevil (liked vincent d'onofrio, otherwise thought acting was poor, forced myself to finish season 1), recently gave up on Walking Dead, caught up on Homeland, Game of Stabbings, House of Cards, and Better Call Saul (best of the lot).

From what I can gauge, I should try 1) The Wire, 2) Sons of Anarchy, 3) Mad Men, or 4) Boardwalk Empire.

Any votes/opinions/suggestions?

Breaking Bad if you haven't seen it and after that The Wire.

The West Wing and The Newsroom I loved too.

I recently finished off Wallander, pretty good police procedural originally set in Swedish media, seasons are really tv movies. Kenneth Branagh plays Wallander, Tom Hiddelston is a regular in the first two seasons, and Nicholas Hoult is in the first episode, x-men and avengers yadda yadda...

Also, The Five, though I kinda had it figured by episode 8, still worth a look.

I heart this show, but I need palate cleansers once in awhile. So grim and tense.

Daredevil 2? Jessica Jones?

I liked Sense8.

I also mindlessly enjoyed White Collar.

I'm struggling with Daredevil too. I'll persevere and get through. Jessica Jones was better.

I loved Marco Polo and The Last Kingdom, but you may not if you're not a fan of Vikings.

Thanks all for the suggestions, I started The Wire last night, watched the first 3 eps. A bit slow, but by the end of the third, I was definitely getting sucked in.

I see a couple suggestions on jessica jones - I'll give that a shot as well.
