I would need to see Stamkos added to take the bet for playoffs next season. Even then I would do it nervously as I only see them at around +/- 90 points with him added.
What exactly do you mean by "contend"? For a playoff spot or for a championship?
Theres always a chance but its more of an anomaly than a rule. Also I'm sure theres some advanced stats belying their final position.TBLeafer said:Bullfrog said:TBLeafer said:+/- 85 points is where I see this team next season. Playoffs. But anything can happen in the playoffs as recent history has shown us, an 8th seeded team can suddenly run hot all the way to the championship.

Are you referring to the LA Kings run?

All of one 8th seeded team has won the Cup since the league introduced conference based playoff seeds, and all of 2 have made the Final.

That would one of them, yeah.

I'm all for hoping things go better for the Leafs sooner than I expect them to. I'm optimistic that Leafs management has begun a significant course correction that will (again, I'm hoping) see them become a contender several years from now.
Given the amount of damage that's been done to the team by Nonis, Burke, Fletcher 2.0 all the way back to JFJ I can see why patience runs thin. But building a Cup contending team? It's not going to happen overnight.
There are finally some prospects with elite potential entering the Leafs system. That's a great start, but that's all it is.

"Brendan put a plan in place, we call it the Shanny Plan." - Lou.
Brendan bursts out laughing. "I can't believe you said that."
Can we rename the thread?

I'm not. Did I actually make any kind of comparison other than to say "its been done"? Its a fact. Its been done, but I never suggested that feat could ever be repeated by the Shanaplan Leafs.
