Tim Thomas/white house

makes me wonder if a canadian team will get an invite to the white house

imagine the habs?  there would be riots in montreal, cause, you know, americans don't speak french

The Blue Jays met the president when they won the World Series, can't recall Canadian hockey teams though, maybe they did?

I would have given him more credit if he did show up and after posing for the photos with his teammates, used the opportunity to tell the President what he thought of the job he was doing.

Instead, he completely took away from his teammates in what is a pretty huge day for them.

This is making its rounds:

TSNDaveHodge Dave Hodge - TSN
Don't know if it's fair to point this out, but Tim Thomas has three children named Kiley, Kelsey and Keegan.

A touch harsh from Hodge.

Keep in mind Dave Hodge is a &%^$@$*()(*&*%$#%$#^%&&*^

He could have skipped the event without the fanfare.  He is a douche for using this to get up on a soap box and distracting from the whole thing.

More straight to the man - http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=385861

Maybe he's racist.

While I'm sure this is a joke on your part, there's a reality to it. Any time anyone talks about the constitution and the original views for the country that the founders of it had as if they should be carved in stone and never strayed from there's a monumental lack of racial sensitivity on display, to say nothing of a really terrible understanding of the constitution.

Excellent point.  Most of these self-appointed constitutionalists have no cogent understanding at all of the document and its evolution.

Plus, for all their denials, there are plenty of racists in the Tea Party.  A lot of them absolutely cannot stand that a black man got elected president.  Only the extremist white supremacists will openly admit it, of course.
I doubt very much that there are as many racists as you suggest.Just because Thomas is not a left leaning socialist..is no reason to bring up that subject.

On the contrary.  The Tea Party is shot through with racism.  In our political culture they have to deny it, but no thinking analyst of the movement has any doubt.  It's one reason why you see very few people of color at TP rallies.
I know racism exists everywhere and in every country...but to say that a political group is racist is just wrong...the TP party views are conservative in nature, with the exception of a few, like any political organization there are radicals, just like the left has.

The thing to keep in mind about the Presidency is that the President isn't just the head of government the way the PM is, he's also the head of state. There's a ton of history and importance vested in the office. Rejecting that out of political differences is not much of a statement. Having so little respect for the office held by Lincoln, Roosevelt and Jefferson that you'd decline an invitation just to show up and see the sights is the height of the sort of partisan crap that's really, really bad for any country.

I mean, is Thomas' stand going to change anything? No. All it did was make a day that should have been about the team and its fans about himself.

Odd decision on his part.  Displayed a lack of respect for his teammates and gave rational observers a reason not to respect him.

"Free Citizen" = constitutionalist = wacko nutjob.

I think this has all been something of an overreaction.  If a player refused to go to the white house when George W Bush was in power, or refused to visit the Vatican, I'd applaud them for taking a stand.

Even though I may disagree with his politics, I have to respect his freedom to make such a statement.

He stated that he had an issue with the Federal Government, and that he blamed both parties equally.

Not sure why people think he can't object and decide not to go.

Man all those conscientious objectors and draft dodgers during the Vietnam war were suck wack-job jerks.

Well, thank god the Oscar nominations were announced today because the Worst Analogy of the Day ceremony will now be suspense-free.

From the man who brings Lincoln, Roosevelt and Jefferson into a discussion of Thomas declining to meet the current president in the year 2012.

Well done.

I guess you would've been up for most overly dramatic or over-stated comment.
