Toronto Maple leafs positive thinking thread.... Please.

Hey folks.
I am tired of threads with nothing but doom and gloom on the site. I am starting a thread where us fans and still post the positives they see during a game, or season. If the administrators want to help here, I would like to keep all post positive, with no sarcasm towards us folks who still think the team can do well. Thanks.

As pointed out in another thread, there are three players on an 82-game 30 goal pace:
- Kessel: 37
- Lupul: 31
- JvR: 30

That doesn't mean anything from a team perspective, but it's encouraging that Kessel is only 26 years old and JvR only 24.

Bolland is going to resume skating this week.

We have two very good goalies, both only 25 years old.

There are positives.

As much as I get pretty heated up and pessimistic about the way the team is going and when they play poorly I have always said this team was and I repeat was heading in the right direction. With so many harping on Burke's moves when he was GM I maintained most of his deals were good. Didn't care much for the free agent stuff but I think Brian made some good moves and I for one backed the Kessel deal. After the collapse in the playoffs I stated that the biggest problem with the team and it was evident last year was our defensive play as a whole not just the defence. A good front line centre and trying to get the team to tighten up defensively and I think we be a better team for it. Nonis did not address the centre situation and the team in my opinion has gotten worse in our own end. Also the Clarkson signing was an overpayment and is one of the reasons we are where we are as far as trying to make moves due to cap issues. Burke started to build a good nucleus and still think it's there but personally I think Carlyle has mismanaged his players and I think may be ruining their confidence and play. Watched a segment on TSN the reporters and Bruce Arthur was absolutely right with what he said. I encourage all of you to watch it. When we're playing Fraser rather than Gardiner that's enough for me and Gardiner is not the only one Carlyle is ruining. Still think the pieces are there but Nonis has to step in and run the team not Carlyle.

started in the right thread / ended in the wrong thread

Positive thinking? No problem.

Compared to GMs past, they seem committed to holding on to young assets. It seems they've finally figured out how good teams are built in the cap era, and are following the logic.

All they have to do now is figure out how to lose properly and draft top 5, and with MLSE resources, we'll have a team to be proud of in 5-7ish years.

Leafs prospect Connor Brown with two goals four assists today. 15 points in last four games. 88 points in 43 games to lead OHL. On pace for 127pts, which would be the highest in the OHL since Patrick Kane?s 145pts in 2006/07.
Another Leafs prospect Fabrice Herzog with a goal and three assists today for Quebec. 23 goals and 36 points in 38 games

Ok lets be positive.  My suggestion is read Cathel Kelly?s article about Tim L reaching for the stars in signing Dafoe and Bradley to TFC. It speaks of a change of culture at TMLS about the bottom line changing to winning from profit only. When they brought Tim L in he said he would change the culture and it is changing.  A new GM for the Raptors (whom would have thunk it, how they are doing?), new players and GM for TFC and well patience for Nonis to not sell off our young assets, but to build on them.  Tim admits how much more difficult it is to build a winner with the cap in basketball and NHL but at least the philosophy of the Pension Plan group is gone? That is a major positive don't you think?

I am positive the playoff race will come down to the last week of the season, the Leafs will surpass the Canadiens and will make the playoffs.

P.S. please do not trade Gardiner.  He showed what he can do on the PP against the Bruins so I would hate to see him go.

Remember when the Leafs PP and PK ranked near the bottom of the league and Leaf goalies ranked near the bottom in GAA and SV%?  Boy do I ever miss those days.

Leafs have won 5 in row for the first time in 7 years. We are now getting scoring from our defense. Gleason has turned out several good games. Even kadri scored. A good evening for Leafs fans.

The last time the Leafs followed up a 4 game losing streak with a 5 game winning streak was 1967

Reimer, with an outstanding game.
Defense is starting to score, and IMO last night they were running around too badly in there zone.
