TSN's Top 50 Players List for 2011-12

Unless I misread somewhere there is not one Leaf on this list.

The Ducks have Getzlaf, Perry, and Ryan. I would love one of those guys to be in blue and white.

You didn't misread.... Kessel may be the closest we have... its not a list I'd dispute at this time though...

Crosby's a great player and everything, but when you're injured it doesn't matter how good you are. This is a long term injury and I think they should've abstained from having him on the list while he's injured.

That seems about right. It's unfortunate but it is one of the realities of where the team is right now. Going forward, landing that kind of star player is the team's biggest challenge.

This team sure would have been different if the Sedins had made it to free agency and Burke snagged them from Sweden as was rumoured to be his agenda.

Of the first 30 players on the list, I could only identify 3 that had switched teams:  Chara (UFA), Richards (UFA), Thornton (Trade)...and I wouldn't even necessarily put Richards in that top-30 pack of players ...  That shows you how tough it is to get one of those players.

Another depressing stat is that the Leafs have had, what zero NHL-wide award-winning players since the 60s?  No Norris, Vezina, Hart, Richard, Pearson, Selke?  (Did Mogilny get the Lady Bing, which doesn't actually count?)

For once we agree.  Though the typical cup winner probably has a couple of players on that list...

Gilmour won the Selke in 92-93.

Something to keep in mind is that it seems to be a list almost entirely based on how people played last season as opposed to being an attempt at prediction. Nicklas Backstrom dropped 40 spots on the strength of a bad season.

That said, it is a tough list to make. Some very good players like Tavares, Letang, Gaborik and Koivu aren't on it. By my count 8 or 9 teams don't have a player on it including four of the seven Canadian teams.
