Considering where, how and by whom the majority of the big comic book characters were created it always astounds me when people are surprised that they might be "Left Wing".

This has always perplexed me. The other day I saw a huge comic book fan I know post on FB: "I really liked Supergirl (the show) until it got all political. I just wanted to see her punch bad guys not deal with alien refugees" and I was just like... dude...

A show about an alien refugee dealing with issues around alien refugees? Who would have seen that coming? ;D

I felt the same way when Dr. Seuss was the cause celebre on the right. Like, read the Lorax. Read the Butter Battle Book. Dr. Seuss would have hated those guys.

I'm laughing now, but this is going to create a lot of Red Skull sympathizers/apologists isn't it

The National Post thought this days old story was front page news, because you know, nothing else noteworthy happened yesterday.

A full front page of Nazi sympathy is wild to see on the 'Professional/Business' wing of PostMedia's bucket of rags.

So the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip died today.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56697570

While obviously sad for someone to pass away, it?s been quite a surreal day following the events around it.

All the BBC radio stations simultaneously stopped their programming and played the National Anthem.

(On some stations it was quite amusing almost:

)

Every commercial radio station has been playing ?sad? music ever since while all the BBC stations are carrying the rolling news coverage.

On TV all the main channels are also running rolling coverage in place of the usual programming. BBC channels are all carrying the same content, some other commercial stations are running rolling news coverage.

I'm not super aggro on the subject of monarchy or anything, I don't think they should exist but I appreciate there's a practical plus to not having an elected Head of State, but it's really funny how in watching people sort of try to make a case for Philip and the Royal Family as an important deal they're ironically making the case for how kind of ridiculous an institution it is. Like in summing up his greatest achievement someone on CBC literally said "Well, for 70 years he was there beside her."

Anyways, sorry for his friends and family.

Also this.

I mean it?s actually hilariously over the top

Our riots?

Pretty depressing really. It?s mostly youngsters (literally mid teens teenagers in a lot of cases) being manipulated by gangsters (people who would have been terrorists in the past but are now just gang style criminals) in deprived areas.

The riots themselves have actually been pretty tame in comparison to what we used to have. It?s the situation and the reaction and lack of political leadership that is more disappointing.

A limited series podcast I'd recommend:  The Shrink Next Door.  It's a true story told in 8 episodes that I think is better listened to without first knowing what it's about.

Quoting an old post here since I listened to it based on your recommendation.

Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell are starring in an upcoming series based on this.

I also just listened to it and enjoyed it a lot so thanks HS/Deebo.
For listeners, there's a new Shrink Next Door update episode just released.

I started a new hobby, aerial photography via drone. Here?s a few examples of what I?ve done so far.

This is my local cricket ground just across the road from my house during a match last night between my home town team and the team I played for for over 20 years before moving to another one this year

This is Dunluce Castle on the north coast of Northern Ireland, it was built in the 17th century and was also used as the great Castle of Pyke, seat of house Greyjoy in Game of Thrones

This is Mourneview Park, my local football club ground (who I don?t support cos I?m not originally from around here). Capacity of around 4000 and where this years Irish cup final will be played as it is restricted to 1000 fans due to COVID regulations

This is Royal Portrush golf course, where the last British Open was held two years ago

And this is a random 100+ year old lighthouse on the east coast of Northern Ireland where Belfast Lough opens out into the Irish Sea on the way over to Scotland

I?ve started an Instagram account if anyone wants to follow while I go round Ireland photographing random pretty things from a different perspective
