Useless Thread

Just throwing this out there, but Elon has claimed the algorithm hasn't changed... except I see so much more pro Elon content and pro right wing content than ever. Somehow Kyke freaking Rittenhouse was at the top of my feed.

I think Elon basically has an obsession with being king of the Internet and we're watching Hubris destroy a company in real time.

He may have ?fixed? something that wasn?t broken. Studies had already shown right wing content got more amplified than other content, but conservatives liked to complain they were being censored, and clearly, that narrative has taken hold over reality.

It's crazy because it's pushing accounts I don't follow and have very little in common with. I mean, Kyle Rittenhouse, Lauren Boebert and MTG? Like seriously??

I think that is what I will find interesting.  Can ego such as this cost you financially, or is it possible to protect yourself to the point where you really can do and say whatever you want and have no repercussions?

Feels like there's probably a huge middle ground between those two points though. Like, Musk will almost certainly lose billions and billions of dollars because of Twitter and still be incredibly wealthy.

No, I get that, I guess I am just wondering how far he will drop.  These things that he is doing are rippling through Tesla and SpaceX as well.  At some point he may have a problem finding employees for his companies and at that point do they all start tanking, and if those companies are the bedrock of his wealth, how much does he end up losing?

Kanye went from 2 billion to 400 million, and there is a chance that goes lower.  How far can a person with 220 billion go?  Once a person starts to spiral down, is it like the way up, where there is this multiplier effect?

Well that's sort of the funny thing about how we talk about wealth these days, isn't it? Like Jeff Bezos being the richest man in the world I understand. Amazon certainly feels to be the largest retailer in the world that has enormous warehouses that employs thousands of peoples and sends millions of packages even before you get to their streaming/web services. And I understood Bill Gates being the richest man in the world because computers are everywhere and his company wrote software that was on a massive percentage of them. But Musk? Tesla doesn't sell the most cars in the world and I'm assuming they're not the highest margin cars in the world. His Space business may be lucrative but I can't imagine it does crazy volume because of the limited customer base.

So why is he the richest man in the world? Well it's because he owns lots of Tesla stock and the markets have priced his stock high enough to make his "wealth" eclipse that of other people who are selling many more things that he is. That's modern wealth. It's not making and producing and selling things. It's stock valuation. He's "the richest man in the world" not because of money he has in the bank but because of the good judgement of the same group of people who, in my lifetime, have come perilously close to destroying the world's economy.

The fact that we know who he is at all is just because of the ugly by-product of a broken system. One that confuses wall street gambling with wealth and wealth for actual acumen.

I hate running.

Well I used to hate it but I?ve kind of tried to do more of it lately and have started to come round.

I?ve just entered my first marathon so I have about 18 weeks to get to a stage where I can make it round a marathon course.

I ran a half marathon a couple of weeks back just round the streets near home and managed it in 2 hours 12 minutes. I?ll be happy just to finish the thing in under maybe 4.5 hours.

That's awesome. I like to run, but one of my knees hates it. I stick to 5ks and if I have lots of time (in case I need to walk back) I might do a 10k.

Just drove the Nevada Basin, one strait line for 3 hours with barren flat lands on both sides and mountain ranges on the left and right side in the distance.  Stayed at Ely Nv. and its the same all the way to Vegas.
Called the loneliest road in American. All in all about 8 hours of nothing. Gas up where you can. I won't be taking this route again. Done it three times and I am not doing it again.

I did this this morning, 4 hours 18 minutes. Absolutely incredible experience. Last 2-3 miles was really, really tough, but the support on the streets from people out cheering was so humbling.

I think I?ll enjoy it more once the pain subsides 😂

Hell of a time for your first go! Congrats! I did my first (and only) full in 4:20 and had a similar experience. It was amazing, and the the last 10k was wild - a good buddy of mine joined me for 5 of the last 6km - loads of folks way fitter than I on the sidelines cramping or blistered beyond belief who were struggling to finish. He helped me keep my head on straight and finish strong.

Makes you appreciate how much of a mental achievement it is in addition to the physical.

Congrats, Arn!
