Useless Thread

I still have the accent chief, been in America for 4 years, but my heart is still there.

I posted in this thread purely because I figured there would be little interest on this website, read nothing more into it.
That's fine but there's other threads with 2 responses in it. That said if it's a no vote it belongs in this thread anyway. :)

As a Northern Irishman the outcome of this is fascinating with the links between the unionist side of NI and the Unionist side of Scotland. Could cause something of an identity crisis in this country.

R u in Ireland now?  If so, aside from this referendum are you happy with the state of Britain today?  Do you think NI could make a go of it alone or is there a risk of war again in Ireland.  Could Ireland peacefully reunite?

NI will never go alone, I don't think. It'll either be as it is now, or part of a united Ireland again.

Despite the current population being about 51%-49% Protestant - Catholic, which is vaguely what the division is about, recent polls showed that in a similar united Ireland referendum it would be something along the lines of up to as many as 65% of people in Northern Ireland would vote NO to a united Ireland.

NI, like Scotland would probably like more of a say in its own future and more powers devolved rom Westminster to our local parliament. Personally I don't trust the people within that Parliament with those extra powers but that's a different discussion.

Should Scotland say yes (which seems to be very unlikely, going by the news reports coming out so far), that could definitely shake things up over here.

My personal opinion is that NI is better off as part of the UK rather than Ireland, and that's based upon economics and education policies etc rather than any religious reason.

Edit to add a source for my 65% of people in favour of NI remaining as is

Being from Glasgow I was pretty astonished with the results.  I fully expected Glasgow to vote No, being one of the big industrial engines of the empire and nostalgia, and pension fears swaying the vote there.  I also expected a strong Yes vote from Edinburgh as they had the most to gain from a Yes vote and I thought politically that Edinburgh was driving the whole Referendum bus.  I also thought Aberdeen would have been a solid yes camp.  Strange times, oh well, until we do it again in another 5years, although next time will be with much less fanfare.

Aww thanks LHF! You are awesome.

In other news, would wearing a hazmat suit to the party be in poor taste?

If people haven't gotten into it yet I can't recommend Serial enough. It's a true crime podcast in which a  murder from 1999 and the subsequent (wrongful?) conviction of the victim's ex-boyfriend is being examined in depth week by week. I had it recommended to me by a bunch of friends, put it off and then listened to every single episode over two nights.

Amazing, I binged through the first nine episodes and now the wait is killing me.

Hey I pass that house on my way home from work everyday.

You don't say...is it on the market still or is it occupied now?

Can't say I've noticed, I actually hadn't heard of that story until I read that same article yesterday. I'll try and keep an eye out tonight.

edit: on second thought I do remember this story now. It's just when it was first reported there wasn't any information about a possible resurrection.

It's one hell of a story I'm not sure I'll ever forget about it! Where abouts in the Hammer is it in relation to Hess Village? It looks like the house could be in the same area?
