Disaster for Britain.  Disaster for Europe.  Disaster for the World as a whole.

I mean the people voted so you can't blame politicians this time but yikes.

Admittedly, I haven't followed this too closely, but reading the fallout of it this morning it seems like the politicians who led the Leave movement weren't exactly very honest about one of their primary campaign promises:

Politicians don't get off that easy.  The xenophopic anti-immigration fear mongering from the leave side was deplorable, even worse than Harper vs Hijab was in our last election campaign.

In Northern Ireland the DUP, that's the Democratic Unionist pro British party, were in favour of Leave. As they didn't want laws/decisions made and forced upon them by "faceless bureaucrats".

But they do want to stay part of the United Kingdom where the laws of NI are based on laws forced upon them by another country....

They also celebrated a "win" despite Northern Ireland voting 57% in favour of remaining.

Oh, no doubt, the Leave side are atrocious people.  But it's still up to the voters to not be morons and follow them off the cliff.  It's not like this was an elected government making a unilateral move to turf the EU.  It was a referrendum vote so there was ample opportunity to turn away from a racist lying group.

How is a change like this decided essentially by 50%+1? You can leave later on as well, but once you're out you're basically not going back in.

I don't understand why it was left to a referendum.  If you have a referendum on this why isn't there referendums for other huge decisions (like going to war)?  The average person probably cannot understand the complexities of the situation.

Hence why the "leave" party probably wanted a referendum - because stooping to lowest common denominator allowed them to pick up votes from people who don't understand the complexities of the situation.

The worst part of this, to me, is Jo Cox.  Murdered in cold blood by a separatist, and the entire country just basically went "yeah, I guess that was justified."

The way I understand it is, and one of our UK based posters can correct me if I'm wrong, that it was the result of an election promise. As last night's results prove, the policy is a popular one and Cameron promised the referendum in an effort to avoid splintering the right of centre vote as the further-right UKIP was more or less a single issue party that was proving adept at siphoning off votes from the Conservative base.

Cameron and the Tories did win their majority government but once there, he really didn't have much of a choice in terms of calling it. He probably misses Nick Clegg right about now though.

Pretty much Nik, there's an explanation on Cameron and how it all came about here http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/06/24/david-cameron-the-man-who-wanted-the-tories-to-stop-talking-abou/

As for the murder of Jo Cox, Farage the leader of that U.K. Independence Party this morning decalred that Leave have won this referendum/revolution "without a single bullet being fired" just shows how low they've stooped in this campaign.

So there might be a military coup going down in Turkey. Which is good as I was just saying that whole region seemed a little too stable.

A secular military coup to restore democratic freedom.

I'll believe it when we see it.

Thank goodness the Brits have just named Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary, he'll sort this out.

Really bummed out about what's happened to Gawker.com and what's likely to happen to its satellite sites once they're all corporatized. Beyond the loss of what was an important(if not always ethically beyond reproach) independent media outlet the way and reason why it went under is really ugly.

So I was out golfing this morn at my local course which I'm a member. Its a small 9 hole course so you get to know all the regulars. I was putting my bag in my car when I was done and went to grab my iPhone out of one of my pockets but it had fallen out somewhere along the way. went into the clubhouse to ask if I could borrow a cart to go look for it, I knew I had it on #2 as I had used it to check the time.
So as I was driving around asking all the regulars if they had picked it up or if they did find it, to bring it back to the clubhouse. They were all very sympathetic to my cause and said if the found it, they would turn it in. A husband and wife were particularly sympathetic, asking all sorts of questions and showing a lot of concern. After searching for almost 3 hrs, I  went inside the clubhouse and asked if I could use the computer to locate the phone (not sure as to why I didn't do it earlier).
Well sure enough, the location was 5 kms from the course in a sub division. I hopped in my car drove to the location and recognized a car in a driveway as a regular at the course, as I walked to the house the husband was outside and when he saw me, he ran inside. I knocked on the door but no answer, so I banged on the door and next thing he opens the door and hands me my phone. it took all my might not to punch him in the face, he said he found it but forgot to return it as he had to go get groceries. He and his wife are an older couple from the Philippines and speak broken English. I was shaking by the time i got back to the car and almost went to the cops, instead, I just sat there in my car trying to figure how could they blatantly lie to my face. Unreal.
Anyway, thanks to current technology, all is good now.
