Where are they now?

Currently watching an SHL game, Farjestads v Lulea, Playing a solid game in the Farjestads net is a certain Justin Pogge.

That time the Leafs had the best goalie prospect. He was in as high regard as Carey Price. And he returned a conditional draft pick.

Still hurts.

All due respect, but if you look at the last sentence of the first paragraph of the article you linked to it does kind of indicate that the opinion held within might not be the work of a professional.

As high as we/the Leafs might have been on him, I don't think Pogge was ever really seen in that same ballpark.

I agree with you regarding the article posted.

But, post-WJHC there were a lot of people drinking the Pogge kool-aid.

That was the same year he won the goaltender and player of the year in the WHL and goalie of the year for all of the CHL.

Always felt he was built up too much before he'd even played a game then wasn't really given the best chance.

He seems to have done well enough with his career, now in his 2nd year in the SHL with pretty decent stats.

He's also just come out of his goal and hip checked a guy between the hash marks ;D

This is HF's top-50 prospect list from Fall 2006 (so right after the Rask trade and Pogge's best WHL season): https://web.archive.org/web/20061104115526/http://hockeysfuture.com/top50.php

Rask is ranked 26th, Pogge 39th. They were the 5th and 8th top goalie prospects respectively. Rask was always a more highly regarded prospect.

Yeah but sometimes it's pretty hard to distinguish the signal from the noise as Leafs fans. I don't know that the perception in the general hockey community mirrored what was going on in Leafs nation.

I just thought the article was funny because even in 2008, there was discussion on who was going to be the better goalie between Pogge and Price.

Keep in mind Price has had his struggles too. In 2009-2010, Price lost his starting job to Jaroslav Halak.

After the 2006 World Junior Championship, there was a lot of hype surrounding Pogge. He was in the same group of Tuuka Rask and Carey Price.

Nah.  It was the AHL coach that ruined him.  Why play in an goaltending platoon?  The stats were about the same but this guy had potential.

It throws me off that this is Antropov's kid.  He's 36.  Antropov remains one of my favourite Leafs.

Same. He's easily one of my favorite leafs.

It's too bad he didn't stick around the NHL longer. He was still scoring at a 40-point pace in each of his last 3 seasons. I seem to remember him considering a NHL return this season since his kid's playing here, but obviously nothing came from it.

Re: Danil Antropov -- he's got the size and skill, but his skating needs improvement. (Source: HFBoards).

He's currently playing in Ontario AAA Minor Midget(GTMML) Toronto Marlboros and is eligible for the 2016 OHL Draft.

Played the 7th Annua 2015 ScotiaBank GTHL Top Prospects team (coached by Adam Graves).

Ponikarovsky's son foal, Alex, is about 10 right now, and they still summer in Toronto. His eldest, Jessica, is sadly not NHL-eligible.

I'll bet the Antropovs and Ponikarovskys hang out here, especially now that Nik is pretty much retired.
