Where to send Liles??

Any chance the Hurricanes might have interest in Liles?

There's talk that Pitkanen won't be playing any time soon, and they badly need a puck-moving D-man.

Seems like they'd be a good fit for Liles...

I would say no, not when there are a lot of UFA d-men who could fill that role on a cheap, short term contract.  Guys like Corvo, White, Redden, Colaiacovo, etc would probably do a 1-year deal around $1 mil.

Man. There are a lot of players who are going to end up in Europe this year, biding their time for the cap to go up next year.

How long do we have to buy him out. Sending him to the minors really does not help the cap problem out. Or maybe Burke will get Calgary to take him.LOL

Buyout windows are closed.

I'd say it could be a possibility... and it would actually be a typical Brian Burke manoeuvre. Only problem is that we'd have to cough up something good, because that would be their incentive for taking Liles' contract.

I don't get the Fraser bashing. He is not here to be a top defender. As a 3rd pairing defenceman he did quite well. Clears the front of the net, blocks shots, plays tough.

He got undressed against Boston several times in the playoffs and let to some direct goals because of his  foulups.
On one play he lost it twice in 5 seconds, they scored and momentum shifted, they lost that game. Sorry but we cannot affort those kind of f___kups.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Liles isn't going anywhere and, rather, Franson will be dealt.  With Pitkanin's season done before it began, and their affinity for former Leafs, my cookie is on Franson going to Carolina.

Of course, this will likely depend on whether or not one of the young prospects - Morgan Rielly, I'm speaking to you - can make the jump and stick with the big club.

This does make a lot of sense...but I'm not sure if I'd be willing to deal Franson for less than a 1st round pick (or, if to Carolina, for either Ryan Murphy or Elias Lindholm).

I would sure as heck hope so.  I mean, Franson played at a 53 point clip, plus he had a really good playoff performance.  I would think it would be in the first+prospect range, or some sort of derivative.

Can't see Franson getting that much.  At best a 2nd Rounder or late pick and mid-level prospect.

Franson really has one solid offensive season and isn't exactly what I'd call a top pairing d at this point.  He definitely has value but not a first and/or top prospect like Murray or Lindholm.

So, a near point-per-game playoff performance, albeit for only one season, goes for a second rounder and a marginal prospect in your books? Yikes. Correction. Double yikes.

You're half right - Franson isn't going to net the Leafs a prospect like Lindholm, but, in a trade, he definitely goes for more than a 2nd or a late pick + mid-level prospect. A 1st round pick is definitely a possibility, as is a very good but not great prospect - though, not likely both. Most likely, if Franson is traded, the return will be a 1st/equivalent prospect and a mid round pick/equivalent prospect.

He should be worth something good.  Averaged over the last 3 seasons at 5 on 5 (min 1000 mins), Franson is 3rd among D in pts/60 minutes.  He's quietly been VERY good offensively.

Sure, something good, but, not "just taken 5th overall by a team that's rebuilding/in need of a rebuild" good. I imagine Lindholm's value to Carolina is similar to Rielly's with the Leafs, and I certainly wouldn't trade Rielly for Franson. A prospect of Murphy's calibre could be in play - though, probably not Murphy himself, as Carolina needs all the help they can get on the backend, and they likely see Murphy as a significant piece there.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to say he was worth Lindholm.  Sorry for the confusion.
