Daniel Winnik returns to the #leafs on a two-year deal.

Fine with me, fill out the roster with these types of guys.

I'm assuming it's a pretty affordable deal too.

This is going to be a fairly bad team, but that works for me.  The Leafs (hopefully) have two 1st round picks next year, and actually have their own 2nd.  I'm wondering how many of these short-term signing might bet turned into more picks?  Barring something unforeseen, the Leafs stand to have more picks going into a draft than they've had in many, many years.

Sweet.  He was good with the Leafs  and obviously is a guy who won't be with the team long term but I liked him.

Winnik plays the kind of game Babcock wants the team to play. They may not move him at the deadline for anything less than an overpayment.

This has been a very good day.  The team won't be good but they'll be way more fun to watch.

The 2016 deadline, sure. He's gone by the 2017 deadline for sure.

2.25 per seems like a little much for Winnik.  I would have pegged him in the 1.4-1.8 range. Don't mind him being back though, could see him wearing an 'A' this year.

Winnik had a really good year last year. 34 points and a ton of PK time. He was earning 1.3 million. He was going to get a legitimate raise.

An excellent bridge player, maybe too good.

The anti-Kessel, in terms of effort. And yes, talent. But I suspect Babcock cares more about setting a tone of playing hard at both ends of the ice and Winnik will be an example to the young ones.

Winnik is perfect for the rebuild. Plays hard, smart, and right, but doesn't score that much.
It'd be nice to get him a Cup with the Leafs, but I think he'll be tailing off by then. He'll be a good influence on the younger Leafs in the meantime.
