Winnipeg Jets Thread

Looks like TSN Jets is set to go, pretty stupid if you ask me that Shaw & MTS are going to charge 10$ a month for the channel, for one channel and in Manitoba it is pretty much the only way to see Jets games on TV as 60+ of them will be on this station.

Blame Bell.  Apparently at $10 a month Shaw is losing money.

There will be 28 games (I believe) that will be offered on CBC, TSN and NBC so you will still see a pretty nice lineup of games that you don't need TSN Jets for.

Stupid Bell !

Oh well, I will be getting NHL Center Ice, so that I can see all the Leafs games, they are my team and I'll pay to see them. I will be going to 14 Jets games this season, the remainder I will just find a link for online, if they aren't on basic cable, or if I'm in the city I will just goto BP or something to catch the game.

My cousins had the tickets to the game last night in our group and he said it was insane there, really loud, tons of cheering, really good atmosphere. I can't wait to go on the 28th and see Kaberle play, well I hope he is in the line-up that game!

I drove past the area of the arena last night, about 10 minutes after the game was over and the traffic, surprisingly wasn't that bad. It was like driving down there during the day when everyone is shopping/working, hopefully the traffic doesn't become a problem as the season carries on.

Traffic down there is never really too bad after 5pm.  Everyone leaves downtown after work. Even after concerts, nobody sticks around because downtown well, sucks.  They are trying to change that through various improvements and it is getting better.  The next 10 years should be interesting for downtown revitalization.

Yea, I'd have to agree, although the lights need to be timed way better then they are now, its really annoying when your light goes green, you drive to the next lights a short distance away and its usually yellow/red before you even get close, this happens all the way down and there are too many lights there, really annoying.

Winnipeg in general has way too many lights and really stupid places.

Kyle Wellwood was wearing the #13 on his jersey yesterday at practice, it was his first practice with the Jets as he just got cleared to practice without contact, due to having his appendix removed 4 weeks ago.

Were there lots of fast food stains on it?

It's just #3. The #1 is actually a jumbo Mars bar velcroed  to the back for easy access.

bah ha ha, I couldn't see any, but rumours are he signed a sponsorship deal with Tide, advertising their tide-to-go product.

I was at the game last night (first of 15 this season) and the crowd was loud, my ears were ringing last night due to the volume of the cheering/chanting going on.

It is going to be an annoying game Dec 31st and Feb 7th when the Leafs come and I'm all decked out in Leafs gear, hopefully a lot of Leafs fans come to the game and drown them out, but I doubt it haha

The 50/50 prize awarded last night was over $28,000 :o

The arena itself gets really crowded come intermission time, you can barely move around in there, a lot less room to walk around then the ACC. The seats were very comfortable (seciton 318), but we figure that is because they are still like new since that section was rarely, if ever, used for Moose games and other events, the seats also had more room then the ones in the lower bowl, which I though was weird.

The price of a 17oz beer is 8.25$ I think and a can of beer (12oz) was 6.75$. Slice of pizza 5$, smokie was 6$ I think, box of popcorn 2.75$, don't remember much else of the pricing. My seats are 3 & 4 which are awesome, because we are close to the aisle and won't have to really disturb anyone when we need to get up to goto washroom/get beer.

Antropov happy to be back in Canada...

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2011/10/05/antropov_canada/

Antropov still remembers his first visit to Winnipeg, as a member of the Kazakh team at the 1999 world junior hockey championship, when temperatures at times dipped below -30 C.

"I remember it was cold," said the 31-year-old forward who is entering his 12th NHL season. "That's about all I remember. I'm afraid we're going to pay for this in the winter."

"Hockey-wise, it's on the same level as Toronto for sure," said Antropov, who was traded from the Leafs to the New York Rangers in 2009 before signing a four-year free-agent contract with Atlanta that summer. "The fans are loyal here, and they've been dreaming about hockey here for the last 15 years."

"I had a really good summer working out," Antropov said of this off-season. "I think on the same page now as I was a couple years ago, so we'll see how it goes."

Antropov is the oldest player on the Jets' roster next to backup goalie Chris Mason, but he doesn't think his age automatically gives him added leadership responsibilities.

"It's not just one or two or three guys," he said. "It's 23 guys. That's how we do it."

less room = more seats
more seats = more $

That makes sense for the lower bowl, but why not make the seats the same size in the upper bowl to squeeze a few more in?

Trade off for being farther from the ice surface?

I miss His Nuklearity.  But his sidekick Poni?  Nyet.

Today sees the season and home opener against Montreal. CBC National telecast at 5pm Eastern with a 1 hour pre-game show. I can only imagine the volume levels when the team takes the ice.

omg, Winnipeg is like one breath away from becoming my team. Little, Scheifele, Kane, Burmistrov and Antropov too!? I love this team! Go Winnipeg!

One hell of an atmosphere in the MTS centre tonight. Nice touch having Rick Rypien's mum drop the ceremonial puck.

Shame the Habs had to try and ruin it all.
