I thought Amirov would have more support from his line mates
I mean Canada has a way of making everyone look average but to be honest nobody really stood out for me, not even for Canada.

It was a very fast cloggy game, which I didn't know was possible. I'd say the goalies stood out, but it's not like there were grade A chances all night like the FIN/USA match; Matthew Boldy at times. For the most part, players could make one or two nice plays to get into a good opportunity, and then couldn't make the crucial next play (defense!).

From Jack Han's post about the Russian play style

I did notice Amirov with some good defensive plays: he's on top of players on the forecheck deceptively quick, he rolls back deep in his own zone to support his defense, and stays on top of the puck after starting a breakout pass (he had to pokecheck bailout his linemate after a blueline turnover). But if there's a sliver of daylight to take the puck into the OZ, he'll try to do it through 3 defenders.

A severe blow to Team Canada to lose their captain and potential 1C/RW

I definitely was impressed that he was fairly defensively responsible. Would be nice to have a reliable, 2nd line two way player.

Hirvonen, Kokkonen, and Niemela have all hit the scoresheet. Hirvonen especially has been loading up on PIMs

Hirvonen secondary assist

Kokkonen slings a shot on goal and it banks in off a fortuitous booty

Niemela goal

Niemela was on pace for a tertiary assist here but a lucky bounce puts another point on his boxstats

Germany getting some bad breaks but also being pretty badly outshot/outchanced so I guess it evens out.

The Finns have been playing most of the year. The German league has been off for COVID.

They're actually doing a fairly good job with the artificial fan noise. Not perfect of course, but I find it adds enough to make it worthwhile.

They're playing with a short bench too I believe.

I don't know. I think a few of those kids are over 6 feet.

Final stat line for Hirvonen: 14:34 TOI 1A 14:00 PIM thanks to an early checking from behind misconduct

US seems in tough against the Ruskies right now. Russia looking a lot better against USA than Canada.

That was a dirty little chop on the leg by the US player (turcotte?) as the russian kid put the puck in the empty net, which then sent him into the boards.

I'd have given whoever it was a misconduct for sure.
